As he held the letter in one hand and opened the ornate wooden box with the other, a smile flittered across his face. They were perfect, in every way, just as she was. He hated his presence wasn't made as often as he liked but truthfully, he didn't want to hurt her. He carried his fingertips across the excellent craftsmanship of the pistols and all that was held inside with them, admiring them from afar before plucking one up and eyeing it like a child would a new toy. Abruptly, he set the pistol back into it's case and moved to pen a response to Kaevia. My dearest Kaevia, This is likely the best gift I have received in quite some time, truly you are one for picking out things so meaningful. The ship, the compass, the pistols, you are ever thoughtful. I will meet you at the Smoking Crow in the coming days, I would like to see if you might take me up on a small proposition. With love and care, Vel [ @k-sunrael ]

I wonât take much of your time as reading this is likely of little import to you as I have heard you have quite moved on with your endeavors and are one successful businesswoman.Â
We are currently docked in the harbor in Durotar, thankfully the Orcs have allowed us a day here before sailing across the divide back home to the Eastern Kingdoms. By the time you receive this, it is most likely we have already set sail that way.Â
I will not lie when I say that news from Elenaris making mention you would enjoy a visit once I return did not lift my spirits and bring a smile to my face, though as it stands I will simply see it as that. A visit between old friends. Our history runs too deep to forget anything between us and yet it would seem fate always finds a way to rip us apart. I am living my own life now, I have renounced my succession to the Eventide line, relieving me of proper duties to Elenaris and her orders, no matter the good place they come from.Â
This is far too much already, though, as I did say before that I would not take too much of  your time.Â
I leave you with a gift that hopefully makes it to you safely. While pulling in our nets one afternoon, the sun setting across the sky, I found a clam. With little expectations, I opened it, revealing the most lovely pearl. I had it fashioned into a simple necklace, one I felt was made just for you.Â
Do not feel as though you must wear or even accept it, but the beauty of the gift reminded me of your own. I fear my words are silly and rival an overly written romance novel, but that does not remove any truth from the either way.
I hope you are well and I will see you upon my return.
With love to this day,
Velâadir
P.S. Eleneyâa misses you and sends her wishes.Â
P.S.S. The ship sails beyond my imagination. I wish you could have been with me.
The plans for the Eventides had been set in motion come time that Velâadir and Dymere were called upon to meet their Matriarchal sister, unknowing at the time that they shared a bloodline. The hour would be around noon as the two came to the door that led into Elenarisâ study. Velâadirâs immediate response to the unfamiliar man came in the form of a rather brooding chest and gaze that looked over him curiously as Cindel broke through the space between them to open the door.
âLady Eventide will be a few moments, my Lords.â The little mage spoke in her sweetly soft tone before gesturing for them both to step inside the study.
The blonde knight furrowed his brow, quickly glancing from Cindel to Dymere in confusion. âLords?â Once more his jade hues looked the man over, taking note of little details of not only his demeanor but his attire too. With a heavy sigh, he allowed himself to step in front to move through the entrance well ahead of the Spellbreaker, almost rudely so. âI cannot imagine what purpose my sister has for calling you here upon the same time as myself, though surely I suspect it will be worth the wait.â
While typically his form was fitted in the crimson and gold armor of their House, Velâadir wore a garb that was much more comfortable for his time around the Manor. Leather boots covered the ankles of well woven breeches that held a clearly silken shirt tucked into their tops. âPerhaps we should exchange names before she arrives. Lord Velâadir Eventide, I do welcome you to my home, while surprising enoughâŚâ He began before gesturing to a seat that sat opposite to where it was obvious the Lady of the House would be taking her place.
Compared to his brother, Dymere looked a ruffian, with half of his long black mane drawn into a lazy bun, the rest loose at his shoulders, and a untraditional beard to their elven kind. Two ritualistic crescent scars hooked from brow to high cheekbones. He was a big elf with wide shoulders that held more bulk than some; truly, he looked the type to be at the front lines for a reason. Despite the seasoned look about him, his eyes still held warmth and the notes of crowâs feet that crinkled with his amused smile which he graced the blonde with even after he was cut in front of. Water off a duckâs back.
His attire consisted of a dark leather tunic atop a white shirt, drawing out the color of his sun-kissed skin, a trait usually shared by workers or peasants often baking in the sun. At his brown leather belt, Dymere held a ritualistic knife kept safe at his hip with a pouch and a rolled vellum. Really, with most of his body deliberately covered, it was hard to see just exactly what he was. The most expensive piece of clothing he wore was perhaps his supple doeskin leather riding boots, which have been stained as dark as they could.
Dymereâs overall demeanor was a warm one. The scarring on his face clearly did not bother him, nor his brawny size as he grinned and stepped up to the other nobleman. âI knew it,â he claimed as he looked Velâadir over, smiling like a cat who had gotten into the cream. âIt is about time we met, my brother.â Within a moment, the big elf was embracing him, clearly not concerned about the rules of personal space. Warmth radiated from the beast as he stepped back to look him over once more. âFigured youâd be uglier, honestly.â
Velâadirâs eyes widened. Slightly at first, having heard the term âbrotherâ, and even further at the feel of the embrace from this unknown man. The knight tensed within Dymereâs arms a moment before lifting his hand to give a single pat to his shoulder before kindly pushing from him as the man also stepped backward.
âIt is a pleasure to meet you however...I am not sure I heard you correctly. You said brother?â He asked, taking a step back from Dymere, once more looking over him. While the hair color did not exactly fit the normality of the Eventides, it was hard for Velâadir to deny that his eyes and facial structure were spitting image of the rest of their family.
Dymere knew when he breached the comfort of another and didnât seem at all upset at having been denied a hug. A toothy grin exposed a dimple in his cheek as he watched Velâadir, settling his hands on his hips in an undeniable display of comfort and confidence more fitting of a scoundrel than a high ranking military man. At least, this is what he presented himself as in the privacy of his familyâs home. Anyone who knew the Spellbreaker knew that he could be both in a blink. Try as this awful, war-torn world might, it would not break this big beast of an elfâs spirit.
âYour ears are working. This is good news,â he began with a chuckle. âI am your younger brother, Dymere. Itâs a shame that it took so long for us to finally meet, but better late than never I say.â
Velâadirâs lower lip seemed to fall apart from his upper as he fell loss for words. With the simple shake of his head and clearing of his throat, the knight gathered himself the best he could to offer any kind of response. âYounger brother, you say? HmâŚâ
Just as he was about to continue, a voice rang through the room, mellow and soothing as it may be it was also commanding. âIt would seem you two have made an acquaintance already, though it was hardly as I saw it, I suppose it will do.â The Matriarch finally made her appearance, stepping through the entrance of her study and closing the door behind her. Reddened lips gave a soft smile to both of her brothers, nodding to them in greeting. âI trust Velâadir has been kind, however sometimes that is simply too much to ask for so I apologize if any of his quirks may have come off rude.â
With steps that seemed to be gracefully planned drew her closer to them, or perhaps it was simply that her comfort in the setting was one she knew all too well. Her smile brightened as the three now formed a small circle, raising her hands to reach up and rest on one of each of their shoulders. âOur family has been through much in decades past, I say we put such to rest and focus more upon the matter that the remaining and most important part of our lineage has come together at last⌠even moreso once our Little Pearl returns. Eleneyâa will be thrilled to meet her other brother.â
Dymereâs attention immediately snapped to his sister and the head of their house. Elenaris had always amazed him; he looked up to her in many ways, listened to the stories of her accomplishments over the years, often implementing some of her mannerisms into his ability to lead his troops with strength and confidence. While he was confident in his own skin, there was a tiny voice telling him to stand up straighter, keep his shoulders wide, and show himself to be just as useful as a warrior as he was a brother.
When a hand was placed to his shoulder, he touched the middle of her back and planted a quick, fuzzy kiss to her cheek before withdrawing. The corners of his lips twitched up with the ghost of a warm smile that held the mischief they always did as his pine-colored eyes flicked between his siblings, chest swelling with pride. Even though his brother was a stranger to him, there was an undeniable spirit link through blood that made him comfortable where he stood.
He was home.
Elenaris leaned in slightly to her siblingâs greeting kiss and squeezed his shoulder softly as Velâadir looked on with a slightly furrowed brow. Before he drew away, she spoke in a low tone, though it was not purposefully to keep Velâadir in the dark. âIt is so good to see you, dear.â Â With a smile the woman nodded once, gesturing to the two seats in front of her desk before rounding it to take her place in the larger of the three chairs.
The knight did as he was suggested, eyes remaining on Dymere briefly before looking to his sister. âI was unaware we had a second brotherâŚâ He mentioned as he situated himself comfortably in the seat.
âDymere has been away from our family most of his life, out studying multiple venues and prospects here and there. I would even wager he has already set out to see the Legion among the Broken Isles, hm? Which is precisely why I extended an invitation home so that we might all come together before we make our way as a family to offer our aid.â She had set about tidying the many tomes and scrolls that littered her desk, the slightest bit of frustration and focus tinging her features before she regained that seemingly effortless demeanor.
âVelâadir has already made arrangements with our dear friend, Kaevia, for the time being. He is staying with her in Dalaran. Once Eleneyâa returns home, I will be joining the two of you there, though it would do me well to know where you stand, Dymere. We do have the Aegis that is eager to join the many men and woman on the front and I set to see the one of the two of you leading them.â
The middle brotherâs one-and-a-half ears perked up at the familiar Lady Sunâraelâs name, half-pausing in his descent to sit to cast a look over to Velâadir and back to his sister during her explanation. He didnât realize that he was already smiling, eyes bright at the prospect of possibly reuniting with the priestess who he had spent countless hours with, lounging upon picnic blankets and twisting thin peacebloom stems into crowns that he always found incredibly silly, yet endearing. Her company had brought him immeasurable amount of comfort when he was going through rough times. Surely he would set out to see her again soon, to rekindle their friendship, but now his attention was required for his family. He dipped his head respectfully to Elenaris.
âI go where our family and allies need us most. Should Velâadir decline, I will be more than honored to lead the Aegis into battle. I have already seen many of them as I walked through the training yards and can see that they are itching for a fight. And if my brother should accept, I ask that I attend their drills as an equal. At the very least, I want to make sure that every man and woman are prepared for what we face⌠and show them a few tricks, too.â There it was again, that dimpled grin like a cat who knew where the cream was hidden.
Velâadir flicked his gaze between the two, his lips pursing slightly as he sat in silent thought. âPerhaps it is best...Dymere takes the lead on the Aegis. I suspect that all in all, no matter where the fight takes us, we will come together in the end. Perhaps giving our aid to and small numbers to the forces Kaevia currently leads will do well for all of us?â He offered surprisingly.
Elenaris lifted a brow at the knightâs response, she had not known him to be so willing to give up such a moment to shine in the light of any means. âYou are sure this is what you want?â She asked, receiving a brisk nod from him in response. âVery well, then it is settled. Velâadir, you return to Dalaran and remain with Kaevia until I join you  and Dymere wil-â
The Matriarchâs words were cut off by an action that very rarely if at all happened. The door to the study swung open with force, a frazzled Cindel bursting through and running up to Elenaris with a piece of parchment in her hand. The missive was not folded or sealed though it was clearly marked somehow with a red pigment of sorts.
âCindelâŚ?â Elenaris began, rising as she accepted the letter and immediately as her pale hues began to scan the words, her breath caught in her chest. The anger she had deep within her rose again but even more the concern for her littlest sibling overcame that. The two brothers overlooked their sister with confusion and worry but their questions would remain a moment longer as Elenaris did her best to compose herself only to falter in this plan.
Hands slammed to the desk as scream rang throughout the manor in anger. The now crumpled missive was tossed in front of her, showing Velâadir and Dymere the contents. âChange of plans. We are all going to Dalaran and we do it quickly. Enomea has Neya.â
Dymere picked up the note and peeled it apart to look it over before steeling himself. He had never seen his sister react that way to anything, and the urgency in her voice told him that their little reunion was over. As much as he mourned the lost time between his siblings, there would be more of it when their family was restored and brought back to balance.
When Velâadir was finished reading, the younger brother tossed the missive away and turned on his heel, almost knocking over Cindel in the process as he made for the exit of the grand office with determined steps. âIâll grab my things.â
Velâadir closed his eyes, simply listening to the sound of Dymereâs footsteps recede out of the study. âI will kill her.â He said, so full of emotion but also so calmly it was a strange tone all together.
Eleneyâa was their little pearl, their most dearest and the really the Light of the Evenide family. For anyone, especially their own sister to use her against them, it was an all time low. Elenaris shook her head. âNo, her death belongs to me. You and Dymere simply worry about getting Neya back safely. Go ahead of me while I ward off the Estate⌠We may need to secure some help from Kaevia yet again. Offer whatever we have in exchange for their cooperation, it is time we all come together once more under a unified banner.â
She watched as Velâadir stood from his seat, nodded, and simply went about his way. He paused at the door only by hearing her voice call to him. âAnd Velâadir⌠work with him. He IS our brother. We need our whole family together on this.â In that moment, Velâadir did not care that he had been left out of this knowledge of the spell-breaker. In that moment, he accepted him as his blood and would continue to do so from then on.
It felt relieving to be home as she entered through the large doors to the Manor. The day had proved fruitful in many aspects and surely ended on an unexpected but interesting note.
Cindel took her cloak from around her shoulders as she inquired of the lady. "Shall I run your bath now, my lady?"Â
Elenaris gave a small shake of her head as she moved to the stairs. "Not just yet, Cindel. I have a very important conversation with my brother."
"Oh, Lord Eventide is already in bed, my lady!" She called out softly to her as Elenaris had already made her way halfway up the staircase.
"Then I will just have to wake him." Elenaris said simply, reaching the climax of the steps and turned to take the hallway toward Vel'adir's room. As she came to his door, she let herself in giving him but two knocks as a warning for her entrance.
"Wake up, we need to talk." Elenaris ordered as she began lighting the wicks of a few candles near his bed. Vel'adir groaned as he pushed up to sit against the pillows. "So lovely for you to visit, dear sister...you always chose the perfect time to do so."
She came to a seated position at the edge of his bed, looking to him a moment before speaking once more.Â
"I have found you a betrothal. Well, really it found me but... nonetheless, it is there."Â
Vel'adir tilted his head, a brow perked in curiosity. "While... pleased to hear this, you felt the need to wake me for such a discussion? I mean, It could not have waited until morning?" Â He asked while being answered with a simple head shake from his sister.Â
He sighed heavily, rolling his eyes. "You know, I should be the one doing this for you, not the other way around, but as it has come to this, who is this woman?"
"Kaevia Sun'rael, Alucieus and Covaya's daughter." Elenaris said curtly, looking to him expectantly.
The paladin's expression flattened at this. "Kaevia? The young priestess? She could be MY daughter!" He paused, glancing away. "Hm... but she is cute." He mused quietly.
"Oh come on, Vel, the men of our society have been marrying woman half their age and more for centuries. Do not ask in surprise." Elenaris pushed from the bed, smiling to him.
"You will write to her, when I tell you it is agreed between her parents, invite her to dinner...tea...whatever you want. Be nice, be polite, and be...honorable."
"Ele Ele... I am no monster of a man, I have respect, you know." He said to her as she leaned down to kiss his cheek. "I will take you up on this proposition for Kaevia...for now. See how it goes, let's hope she's as willing as I."Â
Elenaris simply grinned and blew out the candles before slipping out the door. "Good night, Vel."Â
