Drawing tablet is an essential tool for any graphic designer, illustrator, animator, or digital artist to be able to create a digital artwor
If you demand a good cheap drawing tablet to start digital art, we recommend the Veikk brand. See our picks of the best veikk tablets for most users and decide what fits your needs best.
VEIKK reached out to me to post this review in exchange for a free tablet of a model I did not yet own. HOWEVER: anyone who knows me knows Iāve been raving about my VEIKK since I got it, have repeatedly recommended it to everyone around me, and I would have posted all this for free, quite frankly, if theyād asked me to.
Full review under the cut:
Before I review the A15 PRO, a word about my other VEIKK tablet: Iāve been working as a digital artist for over ten years now, and have used a variety of tablets--primarily The Big Name Brand, you know the one. When my last one gave up the ghost a kind friend and Patreon supporter offered to send me a VEIKK from my Amazon wishlist. I confess Iād wishlisted it solely because it was the cheapest tablet I could find on Amazon that met my needs and I felt bad accepting a donation of more.
It turns out that the VEIKK I was sent, which was the A30 model, exceeded my every expectation. Set up was stupidly easy, driver install went very smoothly despite a mistake on my part that meant I had to do it twice (which could have been avoided if Iād read the instructions, lol), and the immediate feedback for pressure sensitivity was so incredibly good that I was thinking: āThis is too good to be true. Iāll bet money this thing stops working in a month.āĀ
A year later here I am, still using my VEIKK and loving it. Itās comparable to any Big W brand Iāve ever used and in some ways better. I prefer the drawing surface of the VEIKK, which has less ātoothā and more āglideā without feeling slick, cheap, slippery, or plasticky. The A15 has a toothier surface than my previous A30, but is still easy to draw on without excessive friction or ācatch.ā I like the shape and weight of the pen better than my previous styluses, and I like the sturdiness of the nibs, which hold up very well to wear. The pen also comes in a nice felt case which makes it much harder to misplace and keeps the nib protected from banging around in your pen cup, if thatās where you keep it, as well as the standard vertical pen holder if thatās more your speed.
My biggest complaint is itās really hard to find replacement nibs that donāt have to be shipped slowly from overseas--but they are sturdy, and the tablet comes with a generous pack of them. Just donāt lose them like I did. Also, VEIKK contacted me very fast when I was looking for nibs on Twitter to let me know exactly when theyād be stocking them on Amazon, which was great and unexpected customer service! I look forward to seeing the nibs become easier to get a hold of.
Now onto the goods: I LOVE the VEIKKās pressure sensitivity. Using this thing is a joy, and the responsiveness is customizable and nimble. I have experienced less input lag with VEIKK than I have with my previous tablets, as well, and the driver settings, if you choose to use them, are excellent for customizing--while having defaults that are still very friendly and usable even if you never touch them. The tablet settings are so friendly I sometimes find myself adjusting the sensitivity curve on the fly during projects to accommodate various tools, something I never bothered to do with my old tablet brandās clunky slow software that always required a restart to work properly.
The best part of VEIKK is by far the simplicity of the software. Anyone whoās used the Big W tablets know that theyāre a constant headache when it comes to drivers. I used to have to reset my driver at least once or twice a week. I have never, not once, in the entire year that Iāve had my VEIKK, had to reset my driver or had any kind of driver issue that wasnāt directly related to Windows 10 updates resetting my user preferences. I have been using it exclusively with Photoshop, so take that with a grain of salt, but if you also work in PS in Windows you will be delighted by the contrast between VEIKKās drivers and Wās. Seeing this small company nail the software so completely has made me swear off Wās tablets forever, at least as long as Iām using Windows. And the best part? ALL of VEIKKās drivers work with ALL of their tablets: download it once and youāre set no matter what new tablet you pick up in the future. My computer transitioned seamlessly between my A30 and my S640 with no extra driver required, in what was by far the easiest time I have ever had working out of the box with a new tablet in my ten+ years of owning one. I didnāt even change the USB cord--I unplugged it from my current tablet, put it into my new one, adjusted the driver settings in about ten seconds to be comfortable with the new drawing surface, and was immediately back to drawing.
The selection of buttons on the a15 is generous if youāre the type to use them. I personally donāt but thereās such a good spread and theyāre so conveniently placed that Iām tempted to start.
And finally: the price. VEIKK prices are so reasonable that I honestly believed they had to be a scam, or that theyād fall apart. They exceeded my every expectation at an unbelievably low price point. They do not feel cheap or flimsy in the hand. They are thin and sleek, but substantial--and wonderful to use. I expect my tablets to be rugged workhorses that donāt need dainty handling, and the VEIKK has answered my every need and then some without needing to be coddled or babied.Ā
Despite being offered this tablet for free for this review, I know Iād feel exactly the same if Iād paid out of pocket--because I already did! Take it from me, if youāre on the fence, and especially if youāre fed up with Wās constant Windows driver issues: VEIKK is well worth your money. Just stock up on nibs :)Ā
