R.G. LeTourneau's VC-22 Snow Freighter was built for Alaska Freight Lines in the mid 50ies & used to haul supplies from Fairbanks, Alaska to the DEW line in northern Alaska & Canada for close to a decade before maintenance issues became to costly & an engine fire was the end of it. The lower picture is how it sits today abandoned outside of Fox, Alaska. The lead car provided AC power from it's two 400HP Cummin's NVH-12 diesels sending power to wheel motors in it's own two axles & each of the axles in it's five 4 wheel trailers. Capable of hauling 150 tons of cargo in -68 degree temps, through 4' of snow, cross deep streams, snowdrifts with it's 10' tall tires. The lead car or locomotive had crew quarters for sleeping, a galley & the forward operation cab.
