S02E01 (part 2)
So we have Max exiting his office and seeing Oskar (his friend) is there:
Is this a common reaction you have to seeing your friends, folks? Because I surely don't go all oh (romantic surprise) at seeing mine. I did, however, when I happened to see my crush out of the blue.
Leah. Leah, babe, what's wrong? Why are you looking so awkward? Did Oskar and Max have a fight broke up and Max came running to you to cry about it and tell you how much he hates his boyfriend and you don't know how Max will react to seeing him again? Are you going to go home and prepare brandy, chocolates and handkerchiefs in case Max comes home crying because of Oskar again?
meanwhile Oskar being the tidy husband-to-be busies himself with something other than staring lovelorn-ly (totally a word) at Max, who's still trying to get himself under control. Like he doesn't want to make it too obvious to Leah and Frau Huber that there's more going on between him and Max than is proper between friends.
Max continues being an awkward, caught-off-guard, precious noodle boi.
"we better be going" Leah says and rushes to remove her friend from the situation as fast as she can, while Oskar exhibits some awkwardness, too, and tries to look-not-look at Max.
And then we get the cherry on top of the cake. This moment of Max and Oskar staring at each other while fidgeting, not really knowing what to do with themselves or how to greet each other (WHAT IS GOING ON? WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN S1 AND S2? WHY ARE THEY ACTING LIKE THIS????)
BABE. MY PRECIOUS IRRITATING BEAN POLE OF A MAN WHAT DO YOU MEAN?? WHY ARE YOU SO SERIOUS??? WHY DON'T YOU HAVE AN IDEA WHY YOU ARE SAYING IT'S GOOD TO BE SEEING OSKAR??? I'M LOSING MY MIND!! I NEED ANSWERS!! WHY DID YOU TWO BREAK UP???
yes, babes, yes the sudden polite distance and handshake is going to fool us all after the shit you did in S1 where you forgot what personal space is and kept making heart eyes at each other.
We never get any answers on what happened between S1 and S2 (or S2 and S3, or S3 and S4) for them to act like that (like they've been falling away from each other between each season. Except, I guess, S4 where Max goes to America) and it's really frustrating to me because when I watch a show I want my questions answered within the show and not have to go read the books to have things make sense (I will, eventually, because I don't see myself getting over these two for a while and I just need more!)
Am I reading too much into things or is this just perfectly orchestrated subtext? Who knows! Certainly not me!

S2E01 (part 1)
Starting off with Max talking about how sexuality and sexual fantasies are a natural thing and part of the process of arousal
cut scene to Oskar entering Max's private practice
hanging up his hat, taking off his coat as if he belongs there (like he's been there many, many times before) and he intends for this visit to last a while, while Leah, Max's very own sister, is sitting there still prim and proper in her hat, coat and even her gloves!
Why does she look flustered, (scandalised even!) at Oskar's appearance? Yes, her friend is Max's patient but it doesn't explain her reaction at all. Especially with how S1 ended, with Max and Oskar establishing that they are friends (after only one month of knowing each other, mind!) and will continue working together on cases. It's been roughly 1 year since Max and Oskar started working together, one would think Leah should be used to seeing Oskar around Max a lot by now.
Then enter Max:
Max who sees Oskar and immediately starts acting like a lovesick fool (wide eyes, parted mouth, stumbling over his words, unable to take his eyes off Oskar--very reminiscent of when he sees Oskar all dressed up and hot in S01 E03)
