She had spent most of the night keeping an eye out for Wesley, trying to keep him at ease considering it had been her who convinced him to come here in the first place. The other part of the night she had spent in the jungle with a princess and then chatting with a handful of people she was familiar with. All the time being there Mikaela had kept an eye on the man sat by the fire until she couldn't bare it any longer. She flashed a smile at the small group she was mingling with, murmuring a see you in a bit and turned her path to Sid. Kaela exhaled, a small puff of her breath visible in the chilly air as she sat down next to him. "I am one of you." She spoke up without looking at him, her eyes cast on the fire.
She wrung her hands together, apologising was never her strong suit. Kaela wasn't built for admitting when she was in the wrong and she was still half adamant that she hadn't been completely in the wrong. "I've always been one of you and I always will be. That doesn't mean that I'm not allowed to disagree with some of the methods that Roman and his watch dogs practice." Kaela flicked her eyes to Sid briefly before looking back at the fire. "Or are you telling me that you are okay with torturing a twenty year old girl?"
This hadn't exactly been Kaela's plan, but she couldn't help the words that spilled over her lips. She had meant to come and talk about anything other than the topic that had driven the biggest wedge in between the two since the Tea Fiasco seven years ago on the Black Trident. Sid had yelled at her, Kaela had yelled at him, sharp and heavy things were thrown and Alex had threatened to throw them both overboard and wipe all traces of them ever existing from the world.
"I was nineteen when my brother was shot, Sid. That shit changes you. I was a straight A student about to go to medical school, I lived in a beautiful two bed house with my fiancé and our cat. We had our wedding date set and my dress was hung up in my cupboard." Kaela wasn't sure if she had ever told Sid this, her fingers turning white at the rate she was squeezing her hands together. "I was nineteen and if the Neptune's Rage hadn't come along when it did, I would have been twenty and in a cell. I would have been the girl being interrogated and tortured for associating with a pirate ship. How am I any different to these kids here?" She turned her gaze on Sid, a small wry smile on her face. "How I am different?" She paused again, the silence weighing heavy on her small shoulders. ‘’I might be soft on some of the royals here, but that doesn’t mean I won’t do what has got to be done. I’m just as good as any of you at doing what needs to be done. I just don’t think what we did the past week was all right.’’
