I hope they redesign the silver stakes in the show because honestly the movie versions were so stupid. Imagine trying to stake a Strigoi with that thing. Hello, it has no grip! Your hand would just slide down it.
Also it looks like a dangerously pointy lipstick vibrator.
Kieron is not Russian and Sisi is not Turkish! What kind of stupid representation is this? Im so disappointed
I get it. It sucks that the casting couldn't be the right representation, and I think everyone was hanging out for actors of the correct ethnicities and nationalities to be cast.
Maybe it's purely that the casting team didn't care, or they didn't try hard enough. But maybe it's just a case of them casting from the pool of actors that actually auditioned.
Would I strongly prefer the characters to stay true to their book representation? Absolutely. But at the end of the day, I'm not in a position to change the cast and I'm thankful it wasn't just a bunch of white Americans.
I've been in this fandom for a long ass time, and I'm just happy to be getting content.
Tbh I’m not gonna watch the show. Can’t believe that the shitty 2014 movie had a more accurate casting (except for rose) and these series get just crumbs. The worst part is that they are purposely using poc to avoid criticism, not because they care. The ethnicities/backgrounds/nationalities are very important to the story, especially Dimitri’s. What a freaking joke smh
That's a pretty harsh assessment of actors that you've never seen work before.
Anybody have any fanart of what they want the promise and molnija marks to look like?

making secondary characters poc or having different characteristics than the book is great… but doing that to the main characters is awful. we won’t get to see a mixed race rose or a russian dimitri. they may be good actors but its really disappointing that they didn’t try harder to cast more accurate people
Yes, it is disappointing. I like to think the best, because I really need more content, so I'm just assuming that they put out the casting call and did what they could with the actors that auditioned. @dimitribelikxv pointed out in the discord server that they spent longer casting the TV show than they did the movie. So maybe this is just the best out of the options, and I'll be happy with that.
Physical appearance is 100% secondary to their ability to bring the characters to life, and that's not something we're able to judge until the show airs.
@sydneysageivashkov thanks for giving me dimitribelikxv's tumblr handle!
I want to be very clear about this: the rumoured cast is not my ideal cast. I really, really wanted actors that actually belong to the cultures that are represented in the books.
We all did.
But tragically we are not the casting directors.
Personally, I'm not letting anything get in the way of me enjoying more VA content and I'm not sorry about it.
Ugh, it was from a video interview that I need to find but it was basically the whole "Acting Ability + Chemistry over Looking The Part" Reason, I remember her patting herself and the crew over that choice.
I definitely agree with this method. I would 100% prefer the actors to be good at their jobs and have chemistry than look the way they're described in the books.
