A 20-year-old Ukrainian featherweight by the name of @lomachenkovasiliy gconfirmed his place as the finest amateur boxer in the world #OnThisDay when he scooped Olympic gold at the 2008 Beijing games by halting Khedafi Djelkhir of France in just one minute and 51 seconds. The brilliant southpaw let his hands go to force three standing counts and automatically end the contest. “I never let the initiative slip away from me,” said Lomachenko, the 2006 junior world champion.
