Vasco: âOf course. Iâm rocking her right now.â
De Sardet: âSo try singing to her.â
Vasco: âSinging???â
De Sardet: âIt always works when I do it.â
Vasco: âBut I donât know any lullabies!â
De Sardet: âSo sing whatever you do know. Sheâs just a baby. Itâs not like she can understand you.â
Vasco: ...
Vasco, softly, as he rocks his daughter: âWhat do we do with a drunken sailor? What do we do with a drunken sailor? What do we do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning...â

So because I didnât become a Naut, Vasco chose to stay on the island with me, and he turned down a position as a fleet commander.
Which is fine, but I donât want Vasco to completely abandon his career just to support mine.
So my headcanon is that Vasco eventually becomes the admiral stationed on the island. The Nauts seem to like to keep admirals semi-permanently stationed in each region they work in, to handle diplomatic affairs and direct captains. I figure that the admiral we meet in game will give Vasco a year or so to think about whether or not he wants to go back to sea, and when he tells her again that he isnât ready to do that yet*, she just goes âWell, I sure as fuck am, so how about this: You take my job here, and I take the empty fleet commander spot at sea?â
And it works out great for all three of them. Itâs still a promotion for Vasco (and it keeps him feeling like heâs with his family) but it doesnât require him to leave De Sardet, and itâs a horizontal move for the admiral, and everyone is happy.

*I canât imagine Vasco ever saying that he isnât going to set sail ever again. Heâd always just say that he isnât ready to do it yet; and, of course, every few years, heâd no longer be able to ignore the urge, and he and De Sardet would set sail together. Plus, Vasco and my De Sardet are going to have kids, and heâd want them to know and love the sea.
