#vanity display

Today on the blog I'm celebrating all things girly - perfume, makeup, candles, books and of course, pretty blooms - put together to create a "vanity display", a place to store and show off all of your favourite style staples!

Vanity displays are a convenient way of making a centrepiece of the things that you use regularly and love, rather than hiding them away in drawers or cabinets. Through some embellishments, such as mirrors and flowers, and carefully selected complementary items, such as books or artwork, your everyday items like perfume, makeup, jewellery and watches, can be transformed into an inviting display that treats the eye.

However, it is important to find the right balance between functionality and aesthetics. Do not put ALL your makeup/perfumes/candles in the one spot or it will look cluttered. Instead, have a rotating display, changing the pieces every so often (e.g. seasonally). 

Here are a few of my favourites from Pinterest (your one-stop-shop for inspiration on practically any topic - weddings, home decoration, food, fashion…get onto it if you haven't already!!)

WHITE ON WHITE > clean, classic and understated. Ikea has some fantastic low-budget options.

CAKE STANDS > for those of you who have more cake stands then you will ever need (courtesy of wedding presents, perhaps!), here is an innovative use for them. For an added lux factor, go for a gold cake stand.

RUSTIC TRAYS > For a country-home, large gold/silver trays paired with simple colours such as black, white and grey, keep the emphasis on one feature item. Similar silver tray by Vera Wang.

MIRROR MIRROR > for the diva in all of us! A mirrored tray with bold lines is sure to make a statement and is easy to pair with most furniture. Stores like Wheel&Barrow have mirror placemats for very reasonable prices. I bought mine (close-up below) from there for just $15!

And another close-up of the books (IT, by Alexa Chung and Living in Style, by Rachel Zoe) and candles that I chose to use for my display. Ecoya candles are one of my favourites for long-lasting, natural fragrances. Plus, they are natural soy-wax candles, meaning no toxic fumes or soot and longer burn times, yay! As the wax is derived from soybeans, it is far more environmentally friendly (biodegradable) and sustainable than traditional paraffin wax candles. The wooden hand (which is also handmade) was purchased from a market in Ubud, Bali, earlier this year.

Last but not least - flowers! If you do not want to buy flowers every week, buy a pot plant for an organic touch to your vanity display. Even if you kill it (as I always do), at least it will last you a few months rather than a few days!
