Vandeleur's Easter House Mix - have a listen
J.A.T.M Vol 5 - Our House ReLaunch
'Fantastic atmosphere ...'
'Couldn't have gone better ...'
'Something new ...'
These are just some of the reviews of the ReLaunch of Our House last Friday 28th September.Â
The night was a huge success from my personal point of view. On the night their were sets from Francis Richards, Vandeleur, Tonic, Southpaw and the event headliner, Tony Deejay Rayna. The Cavern was packed out, with a huge queue forming outside as the evening progressed.
Holding the night on a Friday does mean facing competition from the popular Friday Timepiece but Our House managed to persuade enough people to come through the doors of the Cavern to make the nigh a success. Ticket sales were slow leading up to the event, but on the day, event organiser, Sam McLaren was was extremely busy delivering tickets across the student houses of Exeter.Â
Club nights prove stressful to run for anyone involved, and this was definitely the case for Sam, but ticket sales ultimately proved to be good, for only the second night of the event, with on the door sales filling the clubs capacity. From anyone's point of view you don't want to have to turn away people wanting to attend, due to obvious loss of revenue, and denying those who want to attend a good night. But the queue that formed outside of The Cavern, did mean that many did not get to enter the club.
Sam was extremely happy with how the night went and is already looking forward to the one at the end of this month, being hosted on Friday 26th October. Below are his thoughts on the ReLaunch.Â
"I think the relaunch couldn't have gone better. Cavern was absolutely packed, with a huge queue outside. Early on, I spoke to a local fan who told me we were "fighting a loosing battle" by trying to run house music nights in Exeter, but I think the numbers spoke for themselves! We are going to get new producers down and hopefully some big names in the house scene. Looking forward to the 26th!"Â
The club evidently filled up quicker than on the night of the Launch back in June, with ticket holders having to enter the event at half past 10 at the latest. This contributed to the great atmosphere that formed in The Cavern. From about this time the dancefloor became packed, subsquently following the drop of 'More Than Me' by Eliphino by Vandeleur, Tom Cooke. The ReLaunch was Tom's, second successive set at the event and he shared his thoughts with me.Â
"Thoroughly enjoyed Our House on Friday, during my 10-11 set the dance floor rapidly filled up and I got a great reception to the tunes I was playing. Fantastic atmosphere in the club the whole night and I really hope we can live up to expectations in the following nights."
Tom was also involved heavily in the promoting of the event and the selling of tickets during the week leading up to the event.Â
The night was not just enjoyed by those involved but also by those who attended the event. "Cracking atmosphere. Loved it. Something new," was the view of Tom Smith.
The stand out set was the headline set for me of Tony Rayna, with a great mix of popular house tracks (the mix has been on repeat all week Tony). The OurHouse organisers are looking forward to welcoming him back to the decks at coming events. Â
For the organisers and the promoters of a night, as well as the club owners and the DJs, it is always a good feeling to know that the night you worked hard towards has been deemed a success. The underground music night life has evidently grown in Exeter over the last year, and it is going to be a competitive market. But the ReLaunch has prooved to be a fanatastic building block for what is to come from the Our House team during the rest of the term and into 2013.
Watch this space with bigger and better things to come (and more t-shirts on the way). Next month could get "Messy". Â

Asimov's Foundation?
book: haven’t read | want to read | hated it | it was okay | good | wonderful | loved it | one of my favorite books | best ever | other: cackling not because of anything you said, but as Sidonie will attest, the book is sort of inextricably linked with the insane mind of another Carl and resident of Missoula MT.Â
I haven't really read any classic Sci-Fi - I got into the genre with Star Wars and mostly transitioned to fantasy (which was the other half of SW). Really the only thing I got about to reading of that sort was Starship Troopers, and that's more because I was interested in Heinlein's  militaristic political and ethical dynamics than the nature of the book itself.Â
