Daendels and Van Heutsz
A very important character trait, shared by Van Heutsz and Daendels, is their delusion regarding the power of arms to permanently subdue peoples; how both took pride in accomplishing feats of expanding authority with scant funds (Daendels due to the pressures of war, Van Heutsz because of his ambition to pose as the restorer of the Indies' financial equilibrium) and therefore with insufficient troops and military equipment, sacrificing not only thousands of Indians but also their own officers and soldiers. General Van Heutsz also shares with General Daendels a lack of economic knowledge and development, which makes him, with almost childish naiveté, overlook the objections, not only scientifically but also practically, to certain fiscal or financial measures that have proven to be indisputable.
I never expected both ppl to be in the same sentence lowkey 😭 I know Van Heutsz bcs back then I added him in my gacha life AU lol. What's interesting is that in my AU I remembered making Van Heutsz trying to be friends w Daendels despite not knowing anything abt them back then 😯 Most of their comparison is quite economical so I tried to find that are not like that here.
