Sekhmet's Curse || The Mummy AU

Nicholas and Cecilia Diamante, world-renowned archaeologists and researchers of the occult, were well on their way to finding their Holy Grail. Their search for the origin of vampires had brought them to Egypt, where they set up a dig site in the desert outside of Cairo. They were looking for a burial site, some sort of tomb devoted to the goddess, Sekhmet. The Diamantes were two of many who believed Sekhmet to be the first vampire, and they were certain this tomb housed the secrets they sought.
Their daughter, however, did not believe. Isabelle was smart, often too clever for her own good. She thought her parents were wasting their lives chasing fairy tales and ghosts, when there was actual history beneath these sands. The great rulers of the past were buried here, along with their treasures, and yet her parents only cared about myths and legends. Not Izzie; she was going to find something useful on this expedition, something ancient and valuable that she could donate to her favorite museum back in Philadelphia. Maybe they'd name a wing after her.
After months of digging away beneath the desert sun, they had unearthed the tomb. Nicholas and Cecilia had rushed inside as soon as the path was clear. Izzie, however, stopped to look at the inscriptions on the door, chiseled into the stone. The hieroglyphics were familiar to her, and she believed that with just a bit of time, she could decipher them. Before she could make any headway, however, she heard a sound come from the darkness beyond the entrance. She peered inside to find a ginger housecat crouched in the shadows, her tail swishing in the sand as she regarded Izzie with golden eyes.
"What are you doing here, kitty," Izzie asked the cat as she stepped into the tomb. She probably belonged to one of the workers, and the sooner she got her back to the safety of the camp, the better. "Come here and we'll find your owner." But as Izzie drew nearer, the cat rose from the sand and walked deeper into the darkness. "Here, kitty, kitty" Izzie called after her, "it's not safe for you in here."
When she found the cat once more, she was sitting in the entrance of what looked like a treasure room, swishing her tail and making little mewling sounds. Izzie looked down at her with a furrowed brow. How could the cat know Izzie was looking for treasure? Confused and unsettled, Izzie bent down to retrieve the cat. The animal was fast, though, and darted further into the room before Izzie could grab her. "Damn it," Izzie cursed under her breath. There were no torches lit in this room yet, and it was too dark for Izzie to see. "Come on, kitty...gimme a break here..."
