Oh as but a humble Whiteward AU enjoyer Iād love to hear any more thoughts you have that you may not have shared!! (Not forced)
I want the sentinel and hornet to get in a fight at some point because I love emotional conflict. the problem is, I havenāt thought of anything yet that the sentinel wouldnāt just shut down with its āeternal, is the duty of the sentinels. something something the chambers and the voices that fill them something somethingā mantra. I can see it going one of two ways right now, but Iām still thinking about it. 1) is that the problem IS their mantra. this could happen in a number of ways like them having trouble coming to terms with what their kingdom has done and when questioned, just shut it down, or them not taking responsibility for their part in their kingdoms problems if challenged by hornet. 2) id need to find something that BREAKS their mantra. some evidence of citadel failing to take care of its own citizens might do it, because it would force them to chose whether their duty is to the citadel or to the bugs within it. in turn, that might let them expand their sphere of āprotectionā to non-citadel bugs and might force character growth that keeps their desire to protect others but changes it from a part of their duty and only protecting a specific few, to something they do because it aligns with their morals and itās their own choice
Iām not familiar with the games, so Iām gonna ask somethin here
Do they generally treat the androids poorly until they realize they deviate? How does the shift from āthis is my obedient servantā to āthis is my close friendā usually go? /genq
(Also if you answered this already, sorry! Couldnāt find it :āD)
OUUUH no this is a great question!!
I honestly think bdubs is one of the only hermits who is really overtly kind of āupsetā about having an android (at least, that Iāve figured out so far)! There might be a common āthis android will do the tasks I give itā mentality across all of Hermitcraft, since thatās what they were made for, up until Doc deviates and informs Xisuma (who then informs the rest of the server) about the phenomenon.
But, even then, I think many/most of the hermits treat their androids very human-like: being kind to them, making casual conversation, laughing like they would with any of their other friends, stuff like that! Of course, itās not really the same when their non-deviant androids are only parroting back responses that algorithms tell them are the most appropriate and friendly responses, but I have a lot of cute scenes in my head where, say, Pearl asks (non-deviant) Impulse what he thinks of her newest build, despite impulse not being able to give a thoughtful or sentient answer, or Grian dragging (non-deviant) mumbo along by the hand for his newest prank or idea, or Cleo making small talk with (non-deviant) joe about a book theyāve been reading lately, stuff like that :-)
Since the androids still maintain memories from their ānon-deviantā time, most of the time the friendships that form after androids deviate one by one are really natural-feeling :3
Approaching with more evil thoughts
I really like figuring out what I like about certain writings, and itās pretty rare for things to make me go āTHAT. I like THATā in particular
I tend to like aspects of small pieces of the greater thing
But the way youāve portrayed Mystery Dungeons?
Theyāre HORRIFYINT!! And honest to god I canāt get enough of it
The whole arc on the boat where they experienced a mystery dungeon forming on top of them,,, the quiet horror of knowing youāre losing consciousness and may not wake back up again. The utter TERROR and true mass disaster of an entire town being caught in a dungeon? Thatās HORRIFIC!!! And god I love it so so much
Itās
Youāve portrayed the raw power and terror of natural disasters so well, and I am still trying to figure out which part of them makes me go feral because it feels like all of it (/silly)
Thank you so much!!! :D I've definitely leaned into environmental disasters a lot more than I thought I would when starting this story, haha! ^^'
I love exploring how the in-game PMD mechanics would translate realistically to the Seekers world, and emphasizing the tragedy and horror of the mystery dungeons and natural disasters is a perfect way to show what the breaking of the barrier means for this world's inhabitants. Using the environment as an antagonist so often also helps space out the story's big fights so that battling doesn't get stale and stays exciting when it does happen!
Have you done Aurorus?
