The Super Mario Bros. Movie was great overall, but it made one small, itsy-bitsy, teeny-tiny error.
Peach's origins are stated that she wasn't born inthe Mushroom Kingdom, she was a straying baby that was adopted by the Toads and eventually became their ruler. That's fine, longtime Mario fans no that Peach has in fact had two family members. Only one was mentioned in the games, while the other was invented for the first cartoon.
The Mushroom King was mentioned in the instruction manual of the very first Super Mario Bros. game for the NES. The Nintendo Comics System series printed by Valient Comics made him a full character, a rather goofy, bungling doof to justify why his daughter Princess Toadstool had to make all the decisions. This is the closest we've ever gotten to Peach having a father.
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show episode "Little Red Riding Princess" gave us Toadstool's grandmother. Not much to go on personality-wise, but you'd think a member of royalty would have better accommodations than a cottage in the woods.
