Val is just gone every winter? Do they not need a job or human friends? Or does everyone just accept that Val summers out of the country and it is non negotiable?
Val's generally just a kind of free spirited flighty person (plant?), anyone who meets him comes to find out that he sort of floats through life and that's just how it is for him.
