The EU launches the Digital Green Pass Project (Vaccination Passport)
The European Commission is moving forward with a digital certificate that would enable non-essential travel to be reactivated and that would take into account at least these three general parameters:
A) if the person has been vaccinated (with identification of the type of serum and number of doses received, among other data),
B) negative PCR tests (if they have not yet had access to the vaccine by age group, for example);
C) and immunisation, subject to the assumption of having antibodies for having overcome the coronavirus.
The objective is to complete the technical and political procedure in the next three months so that the certificate could be launched for summer 2021.
It is necessary to move forward with the adoption of common protocols in all Member States to avoid prohibitions on the movement of travelers within the internal market and also with third countries, which of course includes the United Kingdom.
Delays in the distribution of vaccines and the need to contain the impact of new mutations of the virus (with a much higher infection rate) have forced the EU to maintain restrictions on non-essential travel despite the fact that the number of infections is decreasing throughout the EU.
UK citizens and other third-country citizens will need to apply, and it should be coming in the summer of 2021. Details have to date not been finalised.
