I think when it comes to my online projects the theme for this month has been “Achievement’. You may recall at the beginning of the month I wrote about how November had the potential to be big a month for us and I’m pleased to report things have gone very well.
The biggest thing was our long-awaiting milestone of reaching 1,000 subscribers on the Vacation Impossible YouTube channel. We were fortunate to hit this very early in the month. It’s an important number because it enables special features for the channel including the Community tab, and after a review potentially monetization and SuperChat. After this the only channel function we haven’t unlocked would be Channel Membership which happens at 30,000 subscribers – SocialBlade predicts it will take us 5 years to reach 5,000 subscribers so don’t hold your breath on that one. But having hit this goal it raises an interesting question – if we get approved is SuperChat something our audience would be interested it? This would be a livestream in which we would interact with viewers in chat on YouTube. I haven’t heard a request for this yet but if folks are interested let us know and we’d be happy to consider giving it a try.
Speaking of livestreams, I had my first few live broadcasts on my creator support channel Small YouTubers Boost and they went very well. I’ve already upgraded the process where I can share my screen as well as myself on the broadcast. I’m still learning how everything works but I learn more with each broadcast and the creators I’ve been able to help seem to find it quite valuable. Things haven’t always gone according to plan in terms of timing but when live the shows have gone well.
Speaking of that second channel it just recently surpassed 100 subscribers and so was able to get a custom URL which is nice.
Speaking of Small YouTubers Boost, the Facebook group surpassed 50,000 members this month and it’s still going strong having already surpassed 51,000.
We had a new episode of the Vacation Impossible podcast come out.
Speaking of the podcast, we have finalized agreement on our first sponsorship! That wasn’t even a goal for November but a pleasant surprise – look for our first sponsored episode coming out in December.
We also got a handful of new podcast video clips out on the Vacation Impossible YouTube channel.
With 2 more days left in the month the only thing left is to hopefully get a favorable review by YouTube but that’s entirely out of our hands so I think we can call this month a success. We still haven’t released any videos from our last trip and some livestreams got rescheduled but otherwise this has month has been everything we hoped and more.
For December we may set some goals for the Vacation Impossible YouTube channel like reaching 1,100 subscribers, 400,000 views, and 400 videos but those are all arbitrary numbers, unlike this month they’re not tied to unlocking any specific functionality. Also it’s the holidays so we might take our foot off the gas a little…or perhaps with extra time off from our day jobs we might slam our lead foots down on that thing and see how fast we can go. Time will tell.
It’s also a good time to start thinking about New Years Resolutions for the coming year. How does new 50 videos on each channel sound? What about taking the podcast monthly? What goals do you have?
