This is the Claudius R. Hayward House, which was constructed in 1868 in the Second Empire style (The large central tower and mansard roof are indicative of the style). Claudius was a local real estate developer, although few other details are available about him. The home is located in the Washington Park neighborhood of Bridgeport which, despite having many large and elaborate old mansions, has struggled with poverty and crime. Many of the homes are rented out as apartments while others, like this one, are vacant.
