Modern Verse/Non-FF Verse Info
This version of Meiko is open to various AUs, even those not grounded in modern day/reality. I've linked this on my pinned to make it more easily accessible for non-FFXIV blogs!
Faceclaim Note: Meiko's animated faceclaim is Tomoka Kase from Kase-san. I've not read the manga/watched the show, but it appears her FC shows up as tan on occasion. Her icons are in black and white and I do not have the talent to shade everything, so just bear in mind Mei looks exactly as she does in her canon verse (tan, green eyes, dark hair).
Meiko is roughly 24-ish years old, but she can age up/down to match other muses as needed.
Mei's parents met in Glasgow, where her mother had moved years ago. A hookup led to an accidental pregnancy, and although her mother tried to handle motherhood, she ended up sending Mei to live with her parents in Japan. A few years later, her grandparents would also adopt a boy named Akihiko, who was raised as her brother.
Mei works as a bartender after graduating high school and aspires to live a carefree, lazy life on a beach. Her interests include dancing, recreational volleyball, and looking after her friends.
Meiko was raised in a small fishing town by her former pirate parents. When she was old enough, she headed to the Capital to make money to send home to them. There, she was scouted and employed by a performance troupe as a dancer.
After doing quite well for herself, Meiko is kind of over living in the Capital; she also doesn't want to return to her hometown. When she hears of the up-and-coming town of Mistria starting to flourish/rebuild, she decides to move there!
Meiko lives at the inn and puts on performances there and during festivals to make her money, but is often found enjoying the beach. Sometimes she'll head back to the Capital to perform with her old troupe if they request her help.
Based on the modern/generic verse, Meiko lives in Japan and works as a bartender. The different here is that she has some level of spiritual awareness -- she just tried REALLY HARD to ignore it for most of her life. Unfortunately, she applied for a job as a bartender at a place she shouldn't have been able to notice: a sort of claimed neutral ground where monitored-but-harmless demons can hang out (sometimes along humans).
Meiko did not realize what she was applying for, as she did so during the day and most demons only showed up at night. Amused by her being there, the bar's owner hired her, and had to later explain on her first night at the job what she had signed up for. While initially reluctant, the pay was so good, she eventually gave in. Now she's pretty chill with all of it, so long as she's not in any particular crazy danger, and will occasionally help pass along useful information to those who work for Koenma.
Based on OOT but can easily be adapted.
Meiko is a half-Gerudo woman, which is obvious from her height and tan skin. However, she has the dark hair and eyes of her late father.
Mei owns a bar, simply named the Back Alley Bar, located on one of the quieter side streets in Hyrule Castle Town. When Link comes by as a child, she insists he shouldn't be there -- but doesn't kick him out. She just won't give him anything but a glass of LonLon Milk (and for free, unless he insists on paying). Most of her customers pop in only at night, including the Happy Mask Salesman, who honestly freaks her out.
After the time skip, Mei is one of the Castle Town refugees making it by in Kakariko Village. She would like to open her bar again someday, if they all live to see another time of peace.
Mei is a traveler, often by boat, who makes her money dancing for coin. Her parents were pirates, so she grew up in a rough town and knows how to defend herself. If we need to associate her with a real-life equivalent location, she is originally from Scotland.
Despite her roguish upbringing, Mei is a good person at heart and looks after others. She is willing to help out anyone for a good cause! Or maybe a morally gray one if she agreed with it.
(And hey Disney princesses, if you want to learn how to defend yourself, Mei will absolutely help!)
