âYouâre kidding me.â
Itâs like looking in a mirror - a stupid funhouse mirror that throws all of your features into funky relief and makes you look nothing like yourself.
âYou look great,â your best friend huffs, personally offended by how poorly youâre taking the makeover sheâd been kind enough to spend something like three hours on.
âI look likeââ You stop short, cage the words behind your teeth as you stare long and hard at the reflection. âI just donât look like myself.â
(Which, could be a good thing. Frankly probably was, but it doesnât mean youâre okay with it. It feels like a lie and thatâs just awkward. Youâre quirky gold frames and cherry Chapstick, a multistick wash of colour when youâre not savouring your sleep. Not this goddess with mile long lashes and sculpted cheekbones.)
âYou want to have fun tonight, right?â You nod. âYou want to have the typical college experience and like, probably wake up in some random frat boyâs bed?â
Wait, what? âNo?â
âOh, thatâs what I want.â Hyerin laughs when you roll your eyes. (Despite being best friends since first year, the two of you are more different than apples and... not apples.) âBut I want you to have fun and girl, this will help you have fun.â
You somehow doubt that. Canât see how a few pounds of makeup and carefully coiffed hair will change your entire approach to life.
Then Kim Taehyung - Greek god come to life Kim Taehyung, with the freckle on his nose and the impeccably dyed beige blond - approaches you in the kitchen and you think maybe sheâs right. Maybe all you needed was a little push.
