Internship Duties:  

 Accurately collect viticulture field data which can include, but is not limited to:

Pest and disease levels and damage assessments

Cluster counts, cluster weights

Vine counts, vine weights

Shoot elongation measurements

Soil sampling

Petiole sampling

Collection of fruit samples (if working through harvest)

Utilizes technology to obtain vineyard data

Will occasionally provide assistance with research projects within the vineyards

Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Physical Requirements

 Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs

Must be able to operate an ATV on rough terrain for extended periods of time 

Must be able to work extended hours outdoor in inclement weather

Must be able to walk up and downhill on steep and uneven terrain

Perform repetitive tasks

Must be at least 21 years of age

H.S. diploma or equivalent

Must have valid driver’s license and a safe driving record

Proficient in Word and Excel

Ability to carry out direction both verbally and/or in written form

Ability to manage time and prioritize workload

Ability to read, write, and understand English

Ability to work autonomously

Ability to work extended hours

 Ability to work in extreme and varying weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications:  

Completed degree or currently enrolled in a plant science or related field

Job Duties:

Assist in daily tank and barrel rounds checking and recording brix and temperature 

Assist in cellar activities including but not limited to: grape evaluation, pumpovers, pomace shoveling, chemical additions, general cellar sanitation.

Assist in laboratory duties including but not limited to: tank sampling, assisting with common winery analysis. 

Update/ maintain excel spreadsheets on a daily basis including acid tracking & juice receiving

Provide necessary assistance to winemaking and lab staff as needed

Update and maintain tank board on a daily basis with movements and addition.

Participate in and track harvest experiments in accordance with winemaking staff directions and produce summary reports

Maintain Winemakers Database Wine tracking system with crush tag data entry, as required

Set up tastings and trials for winemaking staff as needed 

Produce reports as needed

Complete all written and verbal assignments as directed

Understand and adhere to all safety policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

Be able to lift 50 lbs., walk several miles a day

Minimum age requirement of 21 when working within winemaking

Current enrollment or completion of a degree or certificate program relating to enology, viticulture or related field

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Must possess strong organizational skills as well as high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to work days or nights, in varying temperatures and extended hours (10 hour shifts 6 days per week) as needed dependent upon production needs

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. intermittently

History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies

Job Duties:  

Greets all visitors in a warm and professional manner.

Conduct an informative tasting.

Conduct a pleasant and informative guided tour.

Operate the computerized cash registers.

Stock retail area by moving and distributing cases of wine and other miscellaneous merchandise.

Assist with the set-up of tables, chairs, glassware, table setting, cooking and serving at special events and tasting.

Participate in physical inventory counts as requested.

Perform light housekeeping tasks including washing glassware.

Retail shop setting in a winery. 

Must be able to lift about 35 pounds.

Shifts will vary including some evenings and weekends

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be 21 years of age.

Previous experience in a retail setting preferred for the operation of the computerized cash register.

This position requires working Saturday or Sunday and week days.

Food and beverage service workers permit for Walla Walla County required within 30 days of employment. 

Excellent math skills required.

Professional appearance, excellent customer service technique to include public speaking ability.

Must have sincere interest in wine and participate in varietals inter-departmental tasting.

History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies.

Job Duties:

Provide excellent customer service for Tasting Room Guests.

Supervise, hire, train, and motivate Tasting Room Staff.

Open/Close Tasting Room.

Accurately manage and track inventory of wine, merchandise, and food.

Generate and execute ideas to drive Tasting Room traffic. Organize one event per quarter.

Maintain a friendly, warm, and clean tasting room environment.  

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of three years of supervisory experience, ideally in a sales-focused environment.

Exceptional people and sales skills.

Exceptional ability to create and provide an outstanding guest experience in keeping with the winery's core values and brand image.

Demonstrated ability to train, manage, and motivate staff.

Knowledge of wine, wine production, and the wine industry strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and delivering outstanding customer service.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including most weekends (peak periods in the Tasting Room)

Must have (or obtain within the first 60 days) a valid Food Handler's permit and MAST permit.

Must be 21+

Preferred Qualifications:  

College degree in business/retail management, hospitality, wine industry, or equivalent strongly preferred.

Job Duties:  

Lead and motivate sales and support teams to achieve revenue goals with attention to controlling costs. Manage P&L to achieve maximum operating profit.

Lead and motivate team to achieve monthly and annual wine club sign-up goals. Support member retention by providing exemplary customer service and a superlative onsite experience to existing wine club members.

Encourage and support customer data capture

Set and maintain exemplary customer service standards, and seek continuous improvement of the visitor experience.

Create compelling programs and events to enhance the customer experience, attract visitation and drive sales

Manage inventory to control costs and to maximize profits.

Train and develop staff. Build opportunities for education and advancement. Provide timely and relevant feedback. Cultivate teamwork, trust and mutual respect.

Work cooperatively with other departments to achieve goals and maintain open channels of communication.

Ensure that all Visitor Center spaces are maintained to provide a safe, clean and attractive environment at all times

Minimum Qualifications:

BA or BS degree preferred with an emphasis in hospitality, marketing or general business.

Two to four years of experience in a high-volume hospitality environment with an emphasis on excellent customer service and driving revenue.

Proven leadership skills and a record of success

Strong financial skills, including budgeting and forecasting

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work under pressure, on tight deadlines and multi-task.

Excellent project management skills

Proficient with PC software including: MS Office programs, POS software

Knowledge of the following desirable: ReServe, reservations systems

Must be able sit and/or stand for long periods of time, and work on a computer for extended periods.

Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. regularly.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Job Duties:

Promote Desert Wind wine club to every customer

Handle purchases using POS system and provide retail-related guidance to customers

Attend staff meetings

Check in guests at the inn, obtain all necessary information for their stay

Book inn using reservation software

Conduct facility tours (private event or production) and tasting for scheduled large groups

Respond to and answer all emails, both internal and external

Stock wine and gift shop

Work winery events as needed, including setup and tear down

Minimum Qualifications: 

Previous retail sales experience required

Previous wine industry experience preferred

Ability to lift 40 lbs.

Must have current OLCC License

Must maintain high standards of quality control, hygiene, health and safety

High level of comfort with using multiple various computer programs for scheduling, hours submission, goal tracking and training, tour scheduling and ringing up customers
