“Matthew for the last time, stop it!” Jin screamed, turning back to look at the younger boy with angry, puffy eyes. “I’m not going to date you! You’re just a beta! I just got adopted again, and I’m not about to fuck it up just because you want to date me! My parents would never approve of an alpha being with a beta! Everyone knows that you only use the blockers to be mysterious! You’re just a fucking liar! Stop following me!” He yelled on the last day of school.
“I can’t wait to go to ninth grade and finally be rid of you.” He muttered coldly, walking onto his bus. His new bus. Matthew started crying as he ran to his own, two busses down the line. The bus Jin used to ride before he got adopted again. He never cared much about the younger’s obsession before. Not in the least.. but now? The new family didn’t like the idea of an alpha being with a supposed beta. He looked out the window and cried the whole bus ride into his hoodie sleeve.
Once Matthew had gotten to highschool, to ninth grade, Jin feared for the worst. But instead? Matthew didn’t even look at him. He didn’t even acknowledge him. Jin thought it was strange, but nice. The year after, Matthew still didn’t even glance at him when they were out in the same art class– a class requirement Jin was trying to get out of the way and something Matthew hadn’t had time to do his freshmen year –he just looked ahead. Matthew never acknowledged Jin. Who would after a rejection like that?
While Jin was walking to the restroom one day, between third and fourth period, he smelled something.. weird. It only took a moment for him to figure out that it was the scent of heat. An omega’s heat. “Hello?” He tentatively called out. “You can probably smell that I’m an alpha, but I won’t hurt you” he said quietly, looking at each of the stalls to try to find the omega. No one else was in the sink and urinal area of the bathroom, so it had to be someone in a stall. He gently pushed on each stall to see if it was open. All of them were…
He had one left to check, where he realized after the fact, that the smell was strongest there. He gently knocked on the door. “Omega? I’m an eleventh grade alpha. Jin. Jin Cheo- Jin Maddly.. I won’t hurt you, I promise..” He tried to keep his voice soft.
No answer. Jin huffs through his nose and sighs. He sits down against the wall, his legs in front of the stall. “I promise, I won’t claim you.. or fuck you?” He mumbled. His alpha urge to protect this omega getting stronger and stronger while his patience thinned.
“Go away, please..” A voice mumbles from inside the stall. It sounds muffled by a hoodie, or maybe a pant leg?
Jin sighs again, head leaning against the wall. “Do you have a mate?” He asks.
“No, obviously.. I just ran out of heat serpents a week ago.. I didn’t think I was due for one so soon..” The voice mumbles. Jin can tell it’s a male.. but nothing else.
“You need help?” He asks, hoping he can at least do something for the poor omega.
“You said you’re a junior?” The omega asks, shifting a little bit inside of the stall.
Jin nods, then realizes that there’s a large metal door separating them and speaks, “Yeah, why?”
“Have you.. A car?”
Jin smirks. “Only a pretty good one, yeah. Want a ride home?”
“If it’s not too much trouble..” The omega murmurs.
“Get your ass out here and I’ll take you home, then.” he says, standing.
The stall opens, and.. Matthew steps out. Jin is stunned. He’s.. he’s mortified and surprised. It’s Matthew… what the hell. “You’re.. an omega..?” Jin asks, voice shaking slightly.
The taller man just nods, looking guilty. “I.. You never let me explain..”
“Fuck!” Jin curses loudly, kicking the trashcan behind him across the room. It makes Matthew jump a little, his scent filling with unease and heat. The heat scent– with Matthew right there –makes Jin’s instincts to protect and claim even higher.
Realization dawns on him.. “You’ve.. been an omega this whole time… my rejection back in middle school was…” His eyes are wide, hands shaking at the fingertips.
“Incorrect..” Matthew mutters, hesitantly pulling on his green hoodie sleeve.
“And you never tried to correct me?” Jin sounds angry now. Not really at Matthew, no.. At himself. For assuming and for saying those horrible things to the poor underclassman.
Matthew tenses. “You wouldn’t have listened..”
‘It hurts even more because it’s right..’ Jin thought, running a hand over his face in guilt. Matthew’s scent picks up and he looks faint, starting to sweat. His legs start giving out, just as he sees a figure running over to him, he falls over and blacks out.
He wakes up, almost a whole day later. Jin had stayed home, and was sitting on the other side of his king-size bed, scrolling through TikTok. Matthew sat up slowly, hand on his head. The moment Jin notices he drops his phone to his lap and picks up the Advil and water from his bedside table. He gently hands the pills to Matthew, already knowing that he’ll need them.
“Thank you..” He mutters, opening the package and taking a pill out of the foil and plastic prison. He passes it back to Jin as he pops it into his mouth. Jin hands him the water, setting the pills back on his nightstand. Matthew swallows it and then hands the water back.
“No promblem..” Jin mutters back. “You can go back to sleep if you want, I’ve heard heats are hard to deal with..” He looks so guilty that it’s hard to even look at him for long.
“Where am I?”
“My house?”
“Is this your bed?”
“Yeah, this is my room.”
“Where are your parents?”
“At work right now, but they know that you’re here.” Jin sighs when Matthew doesn’t ask another rapid-fire question. He continues upon his previous answer, “They could smell that you’re an omega, and they were fine with you staying..”
“Oh.” Matthew basically hums. “And it’s.. not trouble?”
“Not at all. We always have extra food anyway.” He turns away, rubbing his neck, guilt written all over his face. When he turns back, his eyes are a little glossy. “I’m so sorry for how I treated you before. I.. I never minded it.. you were always so sweet, and your sculptures and gifts were so cool.. I just.. this was my eighth family.. and I was so excited that I said I would do whatever they wanted..”
He sighed, eyes turning from the green ones he was looking into. “I just wanted a home.. parents that would.. care about me. They said that, since I’m an alpha, I need to have an omega as my mate, or else they'll disown me and send me right back. I.. I thought that you were a beta, with that rumor and all.. I’ve liked you back since I was in the third grade. I’m bad with emotions and I never got the guts to tell you-”
He’s cut off… by a kiss. Matthew has slightly watered eyes, and a hand on Jin’s cheek, his lips locked on the other boy’s. Jin gives a startled, shaky breath before kissing him back, placing a hand over Matthew’s, holding it there. He gently lowers the younger back onto the bed, straddling his waist gently, knees just slightly digging into Matthew’s somewhat toned skin.
They make out for hours, gentle, soft kissing despite the heat licking up every instinct in both of them.
