55 years ago... from Space physicist to NASA astronaut !
Between 1964 & 1966, US Naval aviator Don Leslie Lind PhD worked as a space physicist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt - Maryland.
By April 1966, Lind was selected as a astronaut in NASA Group 5, dubbed the “ Original Nineteen “, recruited to fly onboard the latter Apollo Moon missions and the upcoming Skylab space station long duration flights.
Don Lind served as CapCom - Capsule Communicator during Apollo 11 & 12 and trained as a backup astronaut for Skylab SL-3 & SL-4 flights.
Finally, Lind made one spaceflight onboard shuttle orbiter Challenger during STS-51B in April 1985.
During NASA Skylab training, Don Lind often wore his personal Seiko 6139 automatic chronograph with striking yellow dial, a wristwatch he also wore in his 1981 official NASA portrait !
