would it be rude or arrogant to write a page about yourself (a fic writer) on fanlore? ive written a lot of works for a small fandom but i have very little experience actually engaging with fandom, and so have no idea about the etiquette/how to go about it
Hi anon! The short answer to your question is: no, not at all. Fanlore's main purpose is to document fannish history; you, as a fan and a fannish creator, are a part of that. Documenting your own work and activities could be considered the same as writing your autobiography, so there's nothing arrogant or rude about it!
The long answer is that you have two options. You can either make:
1. a user page, which is basically like a personal profile on Fanlore. You have to sign up for Fanlore to become an editor and make a user page (after a four-hour waiting period, which is an anti-spam measure). There are no hard and fast rules about how to write one's user page: you can include anything you like from your fandoms, your pseuds, your social media accounts, Fanlore pages you've edited, etc. Here is a tutorial for doing that; there's a template included if you feel unsure about how to get started. Or you can make
2. a People page for yourself. A People page or fan page is a regular page on Fanlore, so other editors can contribute to it or edit it. It has to be written in third person, and is subject to our Plural Point of View policy, which basically means to be inclusive and provide multiple explanations and points of view where available. You can write exactly the same kinds of information about your fandoms, your work, your fannish history and your fandom contributions to it; it's just a more formal presentation. Check out the pages in our Fans category for ideas if you are struggling to write it.
Good luck anon!
