Cycling out of the Usambara Mountains and the last days with Niko We left the Usambara mountains via Soni and Funta to Korogwe. After Soni there was a lot of steep climbing on dirt tracks. Luckily the view was rewarding most of the time...rain forest, wide range mountain view and tee plantations made the way very epic. If we wouldn't have been time limited, this is definitely an area for further exploration. We made it to Korogwe in darkness after about 100km. The next two days we just speeded down to Tanga on tarmac and then over the border to Kenya and reached Mombasa in time. Niko used his last day for packing the bike in a box and we had some last drinks together at the beach. After three and a half fun weeks it was time to say good bye. Usambara Mountains - Bikepacking Deluxe!!! A few days ago we took a bus from Arusha to Mombo at the foot of the Usambara Mountains. Niko has to catch his flight from Mombasa on the 23rd, so we decided to skip the boring cycling part and continue straight with some epic bikepacking 🚵‍♂️. From Mombo we took a tiny gravel/rock track uphill to Lushoto...these only 20km took us almost 7 hours due to the high effort and the epic landscape... extended picture sessions included 😎. In this incredible heat we felt like some barbecue chicken cycling up the mountain...and running out of water...some filtered mountain creek water served us very well. Definitely a must do track for off the beaten path cycling lovers...
