A handful of potential MBTA branch lines; hypothesized but not fully conceptualized:
š¦ Blue Line
Branching from Maverick towards Chelsea, via Meridian Street
Branching from Orient Heights towards Winthrop, similar to the BRB&L line. The original ROW has been mostly built over, so this would probably be a one or two station spur.
š§ Orange Line
Spur along the freight branch north of Wellington to Medford Center
š„ Red Line
Extension past Ashmont through the Cedar Grove Cemetery and over the Neponset River to join with I-93 through East Milton Square towards Quincy. This would require a reconstruction of the Mattapan Line.
Branching the Braintree branch north of North Quincy, having it turn west to join I-93 through East Milton Square. There used to be a railway line on this route.
Branching south of Quincy Adams towards Hingham
Branch west from Harvard towards Watertown and Waltham.
š© Green Line
Branch south from Boylston through Bay Village, following Berkeley Street to Broadway, and then into Southie.
E Branch east from Heath Street through Jackson Square and Egleston Square towards Franklin Park and Grove Hall.
šŖ Regional/Commuter Rail
Branching from the Hyannis Line/CapeFLYER in West Wareham, following I-195 to Marion and Mattapoisett. This would require the construction of new tracks.
Branching from the Hyannis Line/CapeFLYER after the Bourne Bridge, going south along the existing tracks towards Falmouth. Tracks can be constructed alongside the Shining Sea Bikeway to bring trains closer to central Falmouth, as opposed to North Falmouth.
Extending the Lowell Line past Lowell, through Chelmsford, Westford, and Forge Village to Ayer.
Branching north from Framingham along existing freight tracks, passing Marlborough, Clinton, and eventually ending in Leominster.
ā¬ļø Other
Tram line along the former railway ROW in Marblehead, starting at Swampscott and ending in Marblehead Center.
Tram line from Hingham Center past Nantasket Junction and up the neck of Hull, street running past Paragon and travelling all the way up to Allerton. Regional/Commuter rail service at Nantasket Junction would be discontinued and instead moved to a new station at the present location of Hingham Depot.
Short regional train or tram-train running from Salem Transportation Center to Danvers. It would have timed transfers to trains stopping at Salem, and would use existing railway ROW to Danvers.
Tram train connecting Hyannis to Harwich and Chatham via existing rails and the Cape Cod Railtrail.
all this talk about the "trans ad-jenda" how about we talk about the real agenda eroding away at america
The trans-it adjenda
People wanting better public service and to be able to go places without needing cars and not having to sit in traffic for hours?
Despicable
Road rage is one of the great american pass timez
It should be a law where if a road calls for three lanes on each side two should be bus only lanes
It's pathetic that the US does not have high speed rail
