Recent dialogue regarding border safety has focused on the impact to humans who live along the Mexican-American border. However, what impact does the construction of a wall have on local wildlife populations? Species such as pygmy owls and pumas may not have to abide by customs regulations, but a new biogeographical barrier along the Mexican-American border may impede the movement of animal populations, which could lead to a loss of genetic variety in those local populations.
