Undergraduate Research & Creative Achievement Day 2017! Was very exciting to present the work I've been involved with for the past 9 months #URCAD pc: @jessica_katelin (at UMBC)
URCAP at CCSU features a University-wide Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD), Senior and Graduate student prizes, and the Alumni Travel Program. Any student wishing to give a poster, oral, or creative presentation at URCAD should submit their proposal by April 5, 2017.
Undergraduate Research
I went to the Undergraduate Research and Achievement Day, URCAD, today at UMBC and I must say that the majority of the research going on at UMBC is really impressive. It's really nice to know that my future university is heavily based in science (they don't even have a football team) and emphasizes undergraduate research rather than only graduate research. Allowing all students on campus the chance to participate in groundbreaking research... which is one of the reasons I am really looking forward to transferring there. And with that, organizations/government facilities like NIH, NOAA, NSF, Johns Hopkins, etc are funding these research projects at full cost.
My favorite presentation had to be "deletion of PKA subunits induces novel packing of collagen fibers and regulates mineralization in bone units." Sounds complex, but the girl presented in such a fluid and comprehensive way that even non-biology degree seeking student, like myself, could understand and appreciate it.
Also, I had a chance to talk to members of the Game Development Club and even play the games that they designed this year. It was awesome and I hope to join come Fall and contribute some of my programming/comp. sci. skills. :)

I need to get better at public speaking
I know my research, but I can't master explaining it to other people. :/
