                it was a surprise,  enough for him to jump,  but the kiss itself was soft and nice and it took a moment for michael to pull back from it as he tried to figure out who it was.    “    uh   --   thank you??    ”

                    carol  is  a  poor  driver.  she  may  be  the  oldest  of  the  trio  (  being  born  in  mid  to  late  august  ,  she’s  one  of  the  oldest  in  the  grade  )  but  she  was  the  last  to  get  her  license.  she  failed  her  exam  twice  ,  &  thankfully  managed  to  pass  by  the  skin  of  her  teeth  on  the  third  try.  despite  getting  her  license  ,  she  still  never  drove  herself.  she  always  had  steve  &  tommy  to  drive  her  wherever  , as  more  often  than  not  ,  the  three  of  them  were  going  someplace  together.  even  after  steve’s  split  from  the  group  ,  she  still  never  drove.  tommy  had  a  car  &  a  license  (  despite  the  both  of  them  relying  on  steve  to  be  their  driver  for  awhile  )  so  if  she  needed  to  go  somewhere  he’d  be  there  to  drive  her.  the  boys  do  not  trust  carol  behind  the  wheel  of  a  car.  if  they  ever  see  her  with  the  car  keys  they  get  nervous  &  stressed  as  she  is  known  to  be  a  terrible  driver.  she  doesn’t  get  better  with  driving  until  later  on  in  life  after  she  has  children.  she  knows  she  needs  to  be  a  better  &  safer  driver  for  her  kids  ,  so  she  does  what  she  can  to  improve  her  driving  skills.  she  needs  to  be  able  to  take  them  to  school  ,  to  games  ,  to  wherever  they  want.  but  until  she  has  kids  ,  she’s  a  shit  driver  who  relies  on  people  to  drive  her  places  so  she  doesn’t  get  behind  the  wheel

        “ STAY AWAY. ”  she takes a step back, puts a hand out as if to protect herself. despite the blood dripping down her face, she is CONVINCED she doesn't need help.

                 & MAYBE IT’S JUST  because he’s in the moment  ,  but nick thinks he wouldn’t mind kissing charlie again.

            NICHOLAS FINDS THAT HE  likes the sound of charlie’s laugh  ,  it draws a bright  ,  happy giggle from him as well.  he’s not sure what to say  ,  looking at the other boy  &  bursting into laughter once again  ,  loud  &  bright  &  rib-aching laughter.
