D&D Campaign Rambles
If you are one of my players, then go away.
I made this campaign with the intention of creating a city where, slowly over time, more and more shit begins to happen that would hopefully catch the attention of the PCs.
My hope/goal was to create this campaign where their choices would affect things and that time played an important role. The players jumped right in and, because of course they did, they often go for things I didn't expect them to.
Certainly kept me on my toes, but I have been doing my best to roll with it since. . .I, of course, know what is going on in the "background." Because of all of this they have helped me come up with things that I hadn't even considered. It's been a lot of fun.
The first part of their investigation lays out the story and offers clues about the bigger picture.
Right now, the PCs have decided to venture out into the forest, trying to find an entrance to the Underdark. There were a couple of potential spots. They found one portal entrance and destroyed it and they have reached the final cave worth exploring.
They get to the cave, peer inside, and it seems like a basic bitch empty cave and that's when my Paladin asks me, "Couldn't you have made your game easier?" Lol. What? Only one person had gone into the cave at this point and there was a hidden entrance to the "dungeon" I wasn't going to let them miss. I was surprised she was giving up so soon. On a funny side note, this "dungeon" is where they are finally going to get a "win." At least if they don't fuck up royally. They are going to rescue a few people, including the NPC tagalong's father. They will also get a little more information and a little secret thing that I won't say just in case two of my players are untrustworthy and reading this :P After the session, I asked the others if they felt my game wasn't going anywhere, and they all said no. I spoke with Adem after we got offline, and he gave me some reassurance.
When I first crafted this campaign, I came up with custom backgrounds to hopefully get the PCs/Players interested in the city and care about what happens to it. Originally, I was going to kick things off with something big right away, but as we got closer to my first session, I realized it would be better to let the PCs naturally care about NPCs and give the players time to grow interested in the different NPCs available. That way when things REALLY kick off and bad shit REALLY starts to happen, it will hopefully have an actual impact.
That's my hope anyway.
I would LOVE to write an actual campaign book someday, after this is all over, so other people can enjoy it. Hopefully it will turn out good enough for me to do so~
