It’s been almost three years since I saw this happen in a MtG untap.in chat and I’m still laughing at it.
Fun with Mairsil! My caged creatures.
Untapping Some Holes:
Have you ever been in the groove drilling a series of holes only to find out that your pattern is off? Go ahead and tap those f-ups anyway, put a bolt in them, weld the bolt into place and grind down the welds. After cutting and tapping the holes in the right place, hit the whole thing with a flap disc to erase the evidence. Viola, it’s like it never happened.

What this decks looking to do is make thopters.... lots of thopters. Lets start with the combo’s and synergies, Gonti’s Aether Heart, Decoction Module, and Panharmonicon.are going to be your friends for making thopters with Whirler Virtuoso, If you have 2-3 of these artifacts out you can make infinite thopters, but with 1-2 you can still make a lot of thopters. Panharmonicon doubles the thopters from Maverick Thopterist, and pay’s for one of it’s cost. It doubles your triggers from the module and heart to fuel your Virtuoso engine and lets you draw more cards with Prophetic Prism. Saheeli can -2 to give you more etb triggers from both thopter makers or +1 to help you find combo pieces. Whir of invention is perfect for this deck because with improvise you can easily get enough a panharmonicon with it at instant speed. Ornithopter works like a Mox for your improvise cards and a free etb trigger for module or heart and with metallic mimic can even get some pings in. Paradoxical Outcome is useful for protecting your creatures and drawing cards at instant speed. You can block with your non tokens then pick them up and draw or just picking up anything if you want to reuse their etb effects. Post board Hope of Girapur works wonders, your opponent can’t cast walkers, artifacts, or combo stuff on their turn, or you can use it to protect your combo in your second main phase.
So with the new Teferi ruling, that's got me wondering a thing. So, how does tageting tapped creatures with a spell/ability that taps them work? Like, if I want to apply a freeze effect but it's already tapped? Or can I target one of my untapped creatures with Aim High?
Targeted effects are different. Unless the effect specifies that it can only target a tapped or untapped creature, then it can target any creature and just won’t be able to tap or untap it when the spell or ability resolves. All the other effects of the ability, such as preventing untapping, will still happen.
Teferi’s delayed trigger is different because it doesn’t target anything. It just tells you to do a thing, i.e. untap two lands, and so you have to do that thing if possible. Since you can’t untap an untapped land, you’ll have to untap two tapped lands in order to fulfill the instruction.
