“Oh, you’re all too kind,” this time Sonya couldn’t hide her flushed cheeks as the crowd roared at her winning performance. It was much louder than the previous cheers she gained from the last rounds. It was certainly the story that won her the day, it took quite a while to perfect so it would be dreadful if it failed her. After taking in the applause a bit longer, Sonya exited the grounds and stood still for a moment, lost in thought.
“Sonya created something truly mesmerising, which I’m sure will stick in the audience’s minds for the rest of the day.”
The final comment from one of the judges was still trapped inside her mind. It was probably just a throwaway compliment to make the victor feel like they did something truly special, but to the mage it was much more. Obviously, the story was much more than a fairy tale in her heart. But if a crowd could get engaged in the abridged telling, could they possibly understand the full....?
Now’s not the time to think of jokes, Sonya told herself as she shook her head as a single tear began to form. Wiping it before it dropped, she began to walk away to find a place to relax.
“Besides,” she whispered, unable to hold it in, “no one would even stay for the finale.”

He had searched now and again, whenever he entered the library. It wasn't purposeful, not really, but every time he looked for something new to read, Alm had decided to keep an eye out for a certain *subject*. Finally, he's run into a lead, and it is because of it that he stands before Sonya now, a small smile on his face. "I don't know if this will help..." He starts, offering her several tomes, sparkles of hope in his eyes. "But I found this in Askr's library! For, um... your project."
@jasperlion
The woman was stuffed up in her own room, preoccupied with her own thoughts. She had already gone through with her tome practice for the day, and she wasn’t necessarily starved enough to make a visit to the dining hall. Instead, she was feeling rather down for once. Other than improving her magic skills as a member of the Order of Heroes, she really hasn’t made any worthwhile progress while in Askr. And it could barely be called improvement, having to relearn all of her steps using that book.
She has made several stops in the library to see if they had what she desired, but no luck. Most books on witches were only about ones from other lands, who held almost no correlation to those back home. And any details on curses seemed entirely unrelated to her search as well. Was her goal truly just a lofty dream? She almost hoped that having the time to relax in a castle would prove to yield more results, but none were made despite her extra time.
When she heard a light knock on her door, the mage quickly composed herself before slowly opening to see who it was. It was....Alm? She remembered having small conversation with the green-haired warrior, but she never recalled spilling out anything worthwhile for him to visit her. But he seemed like a kind boy, so no harm in letting him in, right?
She was slightly confused when he explained that the tomes in his hands, which she only now noticed, unable to see them before, were for her “project.” Taking a few from the pile (how was he able to carry them all the way here?), some of the titles seemed familiar. Ah yes...she picked up some of these while searching for help about the witches. So that was her “project,” a cure for the witches. While some of the material was old, there were also new ones in the mix, likely from areas she didn’t search before.
After collecting the whole collection, Sonya returned her focus on the young man in front of her. With that slight hint of a smile and bright eyes, he was almost....comforting. She had heard several stories from her previous ally Celica about how kind and considerate Alm was. Meeting him in person, she was surprised to see that the priestess was indeed correct. Looking out for someone not even from your actual realm...how truly childish.
Childish enough to prompt the mage to slightly crouch down and hug the other, in fact.
It was on instinct, as even Sonya found herself surprised at what she was doing. It must have been those foolish Zofians rubbing off on her...they embraced their loved ones all of the time. But she couldn’t help herself, seeing the selflessness of the boy in action. She hoped that he wasn’t finding it awkward...but she found it hard to let go immediately. The light touch of another was something she hasn’t felt for quite some time.
“Thank you......Alm,” Sonya held back from calling him a child, knowing it would be rude after all he had done. “I’m sure that at least something in these will help with my little project. Don’t worry about returning them, I think I can handle that just fine.”
Sonya remained silent as she watched the mercenary make the drink while speaking aloud. His words were true, it was quite strange seeing organized battles as a norm during the entire event, no matter how harmless or tidy they made it seem. At the same time, it was strange for her to use her magical skills for show instead of combat, perhaps even more surprising than the bracket fights. After waiting for Saber to finish, she finally spoke up after taking a moment to think.
“You’re not wrong,” she began by acknowledging his remarks. “I think I prefer fighting without the cheers of a crowd every few seconds...it gets rather annoying. Though if it’s all in good fun as they say then I guess there’s no other choice.
“Well, my purse does feel fine at the moment. You’re not buying me the drink here, after all. And the crowd was a bit bothersome, I wasn’t interested in any glory. I do suppose that it felt nice to toss out spells instead of getting pelted by them in return for once.”
" Congratulations on your victory, Sonya! " Leon grinned at the other and presented her with a small bag of tea leaves. " I know that it isn't much, but you did so well at the tournament that I thought I might as well give you something. I hope to possibly sell some of these in my shop but... I suppose that that'll be a choice for later. "
@beauxarrow
Tea leaves...not as grand as a golden trophy or some other gaudy prize. However, it was certainly more practical than some sort of medal. Tea wasn’t exactly her drink of choice either, but it was certainly soothing every once in a while.
“Thank you, Leon,” she returned a charming smile to compliment his own as she took the leaves off of his hands, “...but are you certain that no cost is needed? For a victory it makes sense, yes, but if you planned to sell them I would be glad to pay. My pockets are a tad light on coin now...mmm, perhaps some actual tea would suffice?”
"Sonya! Congratulations!" With a smile on his face, Alm eagerly reaches for her hands to shake them... should she let him. "You were amazing there! And the story you told! It was wonderful work!"

Still unable to get her mind off the finals, Sonya was on her way to the beach when she almost walked right into the boy in front of her. She was able to hold back an embarrassing gasp of surprise as she regained her composure. Looking down at the open hand in front of her, it took her a moment to realize that the boy was offering a handshake.
“Well…I suppose I was quite flashy out there, wasn’t I?” she extended her hand and placed it in his to accept his offer. “Thanks, bo-Alm.”

"Hey Miss Spell-Slinger!" Kamui laughed, "Glad to see ya still got it! Your stuff's been lookin' pretty good." He sobered up a bit soon enough, though, "You pumped for the finals? Don't go losin' your focus now." ~fairelance, Kamui
@fairelance (Kamui)
Although Sonya preferred to keep to herself while participating in the tournament- she needed alone time to train, after all- one drink after a tight victory shouldn’t hurt too much. Though just as she feared, it seemed like a fan wished to shower praises on her. At the very least it was someone she was familiar with, the mercenary Kamui. He shouldn’t be so hard to deal with.
“Hello, Kamui,” the younger woman smirked as she tried to ignore the compliments, those could come after the finals. “I am quite looking forward to what’s to come, but you don’t need to worry about little old me. A lady always has more tricks up her sleeve.”
