Previously we have discussed about free math tutor online chat and In today's session we are going to discuss about Union, A set can be defined as a collection of objects that are distinct in nature. In simple terms we can say that a set is a group of similar kind of objects like numbers, alphabet which are considered as an entity of its own. In mathematics, sets are usually denoted by alphabetic uppercase letter like A, B, C up to Z. In the set theory, each object or element of the set are considered as member of the set. According to set theory, the elements of a set or list of members can be represented or enclosed in curly brackets. For example, we might take the set A which contains all natural numbers within a range of 15 to 25 as:

A = 15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25.

In the set theory there are various ways are defined to describe the relationship the two or more sets. Union of two or more set can be defined as a collection of all elements that are containing by the given sets. In the set union, the union of sets can be represented by the ‘∪’. According to the union operation on the set can be defined as a collection of all distinct members in the collection. The union set of two sets can be described as in below given format:

Suppose there are two set given like set ‘A’ and set ‘B’. So, there union can be defined as:

 A ∪ B.

In the union operation of set ‘A’ and set ‘B’ we need to remember one thing that duplicity is not allowed. It means to say that when there is an element which exists in both set then it shows only one time in the union of sets.  In the below we show you an example that helps in understanding the concept of Union of set.

Example: Suppose there are two sets ‘A’ and ‘B’. Find the union of both below given sets

     A = a, b, c, d, e

    B = g, h, i, e, d?

Solution: By following the definition of Union set theory, the union of given set will be:

A ∪B = a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i.
