Operating along the coast of Oregon, Tradewinds Charters is the area’s premier ocean charter service. Tradewinds Charters operates a fleet of six boats, each equipped for specific fishing and/touring activities. Two of the vessels are designated as “6-pack” boats, a term that is associated with the certification of the vessel. Officially known as the, 6-pack refers to the limitation of six passengers the vessel can have aboard at any given time, while uninspected means that the boat as well as the equipment it’s required to carry are regulated to a lesser degree. A Master license, is required for operators of inspected vessels that are permitted to carry over six passengers. Tradewinds requires all Captains to have a Masters license even if the vessel is inspected vessel or not inspected . To acquire an inspected certificate, the boat must be constructed and outfitted in accordance with strict US Coast Guard (USCG) regulations, and may be of any length from 20 feet to ocean liners. The USCG issues all captain’s licenses, which must be renewed every five years.
