My Favourite Albums Ever - The Falcon's 'Unicornography'
With the album title of Unicornography, you’d be forgiven for presuming The Falcon, a ska-punk-trio-kinda-supergroup’s first (and only) LP to be an immature album. Lyrics such as ‘She’s got the biggest tits, he’s got the longest dick!’, and song names such as Building The Perfect Asshole Parade, all create an impression of an unserious, immature project. But, boy is it one hella enjoyable album. People when giving their favourite albums of all time generally point towards hard-drafted works of art, such as Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon, or Radiohead’s OK Computer. But as my iTunes kindly states, Unicornography is my most played album in my collection. And this will be due to the sheer-brilliance of the LP; it’s fun, quirky, humorous, and most definitely addictive. As soon as I bang the first song on, accompanied by a fuzzy guitar playing a simple, punk riff, I can’t help but just keep listening. And it’s short, clocking in at just 28 minutes. Combine this with a set of 11 awesome songs, and you really do have something great. For me, no album has ever made me so happy. Lyrically it’s disgusting, intrusive, offensive… but who honestly cares? Musically it’s tight, full of energy, and, when you’ve got lyrics such as Goddamn I’m wasted, followed with ‘woahs!’ and pretty guitar parts, I can’t help but just smile. Furthermore, the production is fantastic; the bass and drums pack a real punch, the fuzzy guitar sounds perfectly compensating the gravely vocals, and the overall energy of the trio being top-notch. In addition, the outros on some songs are awesome. For example, the ending on The Celebutard Chronicles is brilliant. You’ll chant and sing along as the backing vocals repeat Baby, don’t you wanna throw it up now? and shout Uh! as the song comes to it’s sudden end. The album is just enjoyment at it’s extreme. Immaturity, simplicity and energy are the three vital characteristics that make this album the masterpiece it is. It’s full of catchy riffs, memorable moments and great song-writing, and I simply cannot get enough. « Interesting Fact! Whilst writing this and editing, I listened to the album three times through. I mean, I got distracted at times, but still…. » Check ‘em out… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6VM4_NuUto
