Shin Megami Tensei - Persona (PSP) Undub Patch and Music Restoration Tutorial
This is for anyone looking to play SMT Persona on the PSP (only tested on emulator however) and would like to use the undub patch AS WELL AS the PSX music patch. This is basically just getting around the checksum that xDelta uses before patching the ISO.
The checksum is like a fileâs fingerprint, it can help verify that whatever file this is, even if renamed, has the same exact data as another copy of that file. This is used to make sure that a game patch is applied to the correct version of a game.
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona PSP .ISO (look for it on the Music patch link)
PSX Music Patch (look for the .xdelta file)
Once everything is downloaded, you can unzip everything into separate folders. The Persona zip will contain a .ISO file, and the Undub will contain a program and another folder.
After unzipping the original Persona .ISO as well as the Persona undub folder, open the undub folder and launch the Persona 1 Undub Patcher.exe.
Once open, select the âPatch...â option on the bottom right of the window. This will bring up the file explorer, go to the directory where you saved the unmodified Persona .ISO, and select it.Â
If the program says the checksum is incorrect at this point, it likely means the .ISO you have has already been modified in some way and may lead to issues further down the line. If this is the case, youâll need to get another copy of the .ISO from someplace else.
From here the patcher will do all the work, from verifying the hash file to applying the patch. Once the patch is applied successfully, you will find a second version of the .ISO with an added â_[Undub]â on the end of the name in the same directory as the original. You can now exit the program.
2. Applying the PSX Music Patch (by ignoring checksum)
Now that your game has been patched with the undub mod, it will not have the same checksum as before. Because of the new checksum, the file appears to be incorrect to any further patching of the game file. This will be bypassed manually in this next step.
Now, unzip the DeltaPatcher.exe from the âDeltapatcher_v2.0.1_win32_bin.zipâ file and launch it.
In the program, first select the file icon under âoriginal fileâ and look for the newly patched undub .ISO file. Then look for the XDelta patch file for the PSX Music patch. It will likely be titled âPersona PSX Music Patch Beta by Canzah.xdeltaâ
Once both file locations are selected, click the cog icon to the right of the apply patch button. Uncheck the option titled âChecksum validationâ then click Apply Patch.
You will most likely see a window popup like this.
Click âCancelâ and then click âApply Patchâ once again. It should now say patch applied successfully. Unlike the previous patch, this one edits the ISO directly and does not create another copy or rename it.
You should now have a patched copy of the game that has Japanese voices as well as the original (less poppy) music.
