Not with a bang but a whisper, Dot got their italicized oh (Realization) here and it's devastating, and 2) their exchange with the Foldlight was a consumption/transmutation of their metaphysical "humanity"; not that the Foldlight ate it but that the instruction & manipulation of reality requires a person to BE like a Foldlight with the fold and light within themselves. It's possible that now only the Fold remains within Dot and that is synonymous with the detached serenity of Motherhood, like a chemical reaction that has equalized into its new state. Perhaps Artifice discorporated because he was already a Mother and "empty", or else the internal light-fold composition of a Mother cannot survive the command/exchange, or he just didn't have a crowd of his friends adding their input to the Foldlight which was in this case almost certainly "I hope we get home but I also hope Dot survives".

"The Granddaughter lies beside the Foldlight, dead. They open their eyes" signifies pretty clearly to me that they are a Mother now. The death is a spiritual one of identity. They are not the Granddaughter anymore. I wonder what their Mother name will be, and also, I am SO hyped that the narrative followed through on their journey to Motherhood. It was a sacrifice but also in a very Mother-approved way not a sacrifice but instead a Transformation (and Dot's original goal). To me this is phenomenally more interesting and rewarding than either avoiding Motherhood (a bit too have your cake and eat it too) or dying outright (the full sacrifice theme Rawfield rightfully decries, renders Dot simply a martyr and cuts off further exploration). The Mothers are SO interesting and a S3 where we get to see a "before and after" character's journey and more insight into Motherliness because they are a protagonist is very exciting. Also, what will happen with Cleo - I don't think it will be possible for them to have a relationship like they once might have, and navigating this new space will be characterful and fascinating.

From what I can tell, the hallway of doors is not Dark Sonia's territory, she simply happened to arrive there. Doors also appear in Phineas Thatch's moth vision in Midst, and Mother Trauma directs him to go through a specific one to view a particular memory. I think it's more likely that the hallway of doors is a sort of metaphysical Grand Central station. Mother Trauma warns the Moonward crew to ignore these doors - I think that's not because they're "evil" but because they represent some gravitational multitude of the human experience, including trauma. For Walden, his door went to his memory of his dying family and leaving them behind; for Phineas the door he was directed to brought him to the moment he attacked Sherman. That's heavy shit - experienced navigators or guided tours only! We don't know at this point if there's more than trauma in there, but I'm inclined to think so.

The hallway of doors appearing in UNEND may suggest the "Grand Central" function is also literal in some way, a nexus where you can physically travel between places - certainly the Ship has physically arrived there to start with. Maybe it's even how the Mothers get around. But I can't rule out that metaphysical element remaining - it's even absurdly sized up for the very large Ship!

I am absolutely gnashing my teeth at what might be behind these doors. Are they unique to Midst? Are they possible aspects or instances of Midst they could return to? Are they specific actual places? Are they memories tailored to the inhabitants of the Ship? Are they for Dot? Do they need to ignore all the doors or go through one in particular?
