How long had it been? Five minutes? Fifty? She had lost count after the first three, in which the older woman had jumped into a very detailed description of her eldest son, apparently the perfect match for a beautiful and intelligent young woman such as herself. Right. As if a khaki wearing accountant would be the one to tie Juliet Velhankar down.
Still, she’d known the older woman for years, ever since she’d moved to Asphodel, and while Juliet wasn’t exactly known for being polite, she did possess a healthy amount of respect for the family, and they’d been one of the few who’d welcomed her with open arms. So simply walking away was not an option.
“Well, you see, Mrs. Hart, that is all, ah—” she clutched her chest, body contorting slightly, as if in sudden pain, “I think I’m having a heart attack.”
Juliet meant to sprint away, but the other woman gasped and grabbed her hand, shouting into the open air of the park, “A doctor! We need a doctor!”
