More Purim Trivia - Eating Ears?
As a follow up to my first post, I learned that the pastry of choice during the Purim Holiday is a poppy-seed-field-triangular-shaped scone called Haman's Ears (אוזנה המן). It comes delightfully in a variety of different flavors (apricot, chocolate and raspberry to name a few). One myth goes that these innocent looking pastries mimic Haman's ears - the only body parts of his that remained after scavengers (birds most likely) picked his flesh clean as he hung on the gallows. Others say that the triangular shape resembles the hat that Haman wore to court before his demise. Either way, some Jewish group or individual apparently decided that the best way to commemorate their people's triumph over a bona fide enemy is to ingest him on an annual basis, literally.
