Okay. Look. My feelings on Udina are only slightly less complicated than my feelings on Miranda. There are things about Miranda that irk me, but I also understand her character. Udina is somewhat the same way. I get why he does the things that he does, he just annoys me.
BUT it would have been nice if they had made clearer his motivations for making the deal with Cerberus in ME3. I, who has nearly made a hobby out of willfully diving into Mass Effect lore rabbit holes, understand that he was desperate. You know, Earth was burning and he's always had a chip on his shoulder about the way the Council treats humanity. He's suddenly found himself the most powerful political figure in humanity but it feels like he can't do anything with it. I get that. But it's also easy to miss in the game because I'm fucking busy. I'm Commander Shepard and everything is on fire!!
Anyway. I also understand that the development of ME3 was kind of a shit show. As someone who beat it within the first 72 hours of the original launch before the existence of the extended cut, definitely obvious to me. And I could just be calling out how stupid I am. Maybe they made it super obvious and I just missed it.
(Honestly, I dislike Tevos and Valern more but that's a rant for another post.)
Was I happy to shoot him? Of course. But that was all anger left over from Mass Effect 1. Where does this man get the audacity and/or the authority to ground a Spectre? Hell, where does he have the authority to boss around a soldier? I'm sorry, unless your name is Steven Hackett, you don't get to tell me what to do. You're not my space dad!
Anderson wasn't playing around! GET HIM!!!
My credits are on Anderson
painted over a nice shot of councilor udina

the other story that got almost as many votes in the poll was the second entry in The Devil You Know series that i'm writing with @alchemist-after-dark, Devil in the Details
so have a teensy little preview:
“I want you on the ship.” Anderson’s voice was flatter than usual, a sign that he was going to take no shit from his superiors. She stared out the office window towards the stream of skycars as Hackett and Udina bickered on screen.
“Operational Alien Liaison for the Alliance. We’re towing a turian and that krogan in our wake, already. Telos wants us to go after that matriarch’s daughter. Keeps me out of the command loop but gives me some leeway, shows the council we’re cooperating but gives the Alliance the appearance of full authority if the brass gets shirty.” Hackett’s cleared throat got an innocent look, “Other brass, sir, you’d never get shirty.”
“Delightful.” Udina muttered.
“Elegant enough solution, Commander. Keeps you a little freer for other missions, if we need you.”
“That work, Captain?” C’mon, boss. Give a little.
His rumbly bass conceded. “It works.”
Cowards being too scared to hate Kaiden these days is a real shame ngl
Has this become a pro-Udina comic? ... look, if it wasn't for the fact that Shepard and co turned out to be right, no one would have blamed him for not believing this nonsense and guesswork.
We don’t have extra Udina content over at Patreon, society6, or redbubble, but maybe we should.
