#udaeus

One became two and now they were three, one more and what remained of the spartoi would have all found their way to Rome. The slights of the past would be answered, rumours had milled about the city that the absent Mars had lost his magister, and most auspicious of all that the eldest of the four originals had found his way back to his flock after all these years. The Pearl was nonviolent by nature, a solitary creature by his own virtue but time and time again he found his way in the company of others. Either by necessity or because they’d earned his loyalty. On the streets he wore the flesh of a man, but as he sat atop a ruined tower on Palatine Hill, the spartoi let iridescent scales, sharp claws, velvety wings and a branched horned head stay in full view. 

Pelorus the pious was here. Gods were actively able to find them now and it seemed like only a matter of time before one of these infernal voices that plagued Echion’s mind found his brother. They were unique in their design and their creation where once there had been just five of them now there were just four, should Pelorus achieve his goals then Echion would be left with no choice but to cut their ranks down to three. 

“Udaeus.” Echion greeted from above, “You’re late.” They’d awoke to a world rife with problems, the monsters that they’d once hunted were nearly gone from this world but some were returning and both old and new enemies were stirring. A titan was disturbed, and death magic was commonplace. Eldritch powers that had no business in this place had found a foothold. 

Going after Udaeus to Rank up

Everyone in my Battle party had been fighting monsters on the lower floors for over a month and a half. Were we would spend a full two days on each floor. Once we reached the 37th floor we found the main route to the 38th floor. After that we explored the 37th floor so we could map out more areas of the floor and sell the new maps to the Guild, as well as fight more monsters.

My Team is Rosni, Kimmy, Cindy, Iris and myself. Whereas my Battle Party is my Team plus, Ryu, Wiene, Sky and Fia.

I ported everyone, Cindy, Kimmy, Iris, Rosni, Ryu, Fia, Sky, Wiene and myself, to just outside the room Udaeus will spawn in. Because of how it is on the 37th floor we really didn't have to worry about anyone else going after the floor boss like we did in the upper floors.

While we were waiting for Udaeus to spawn. "I'm sure everyone knows, but I'll go over the plan again anyway so it will be fresh in everyone's minds. We fight Udaeus from the air, so we don't have to deal with the stone spikes he shoots up from the ground. That will also keep us out of the reach of any Spartoi that Udaeus calls in to help him or just spawn in the room. Try to hit the joints like it's shoulder joint and especially it's spine right above the floor. If we can take out it's spine and get Udaeus on the floor it will be a lot easier for us to kill him. And last, keep out of everyone's line of fire and do everything you can to not shoot anything towards Udaeus if anyone is in your line of fire. We do NOT want any friendly fire." I reminded everyone. "But with that said, no magic will affect y'all. So, you only have to make sure no one is in your line of fire for physical attacks." I added.

"You are right. We already know all of that." Cindy spoke up, then she stuck her tongue out at me.

"It's still good to be reminded right before we fight a floor boss." Ryu stated.

I chuckled, the I turned to Rosni. "Are you going to fight Udaeus?" I asked her.

"Yes I am. I want to Rank up to Level five if I can." Rosni told me.

I nodded my head in understanding. "Okay, then you and Cindy work together." I told Rosni then I turned to the rest of the party. "These are the partners we will work in. Of course, Cindy and Rosni, Ryu and Sky, Kimmy and Wiene and Iris and Fia." I gave battle formation.

"What about you, Eilwyn. "Ryu asked me.

"I'll be a floater; I'll fight with any pair that might need a little help. Otherwise, I'll fight on my own." I informed everyone.

"Are you sure?" Kimmy asked.

I nodded my head, yes. "I'm sure. This way if any pair gets into trouble, if they need some help or if they get overwhelmed, I can step in when and where I'm needed. If I'm not needed to help out a pair, I'll be fighting Udaeus along with the rest of you." I replied.

Kimmy shrugged her shoulders. "That's all I wanted to know. It sounds good."

"When is Udaeus going to spawn?" Iris asked. She was getting bored just sitting around and waiting.

I shrugged my shoulders. "Not really sure. I know the day Ais killed him last time, so I know the day he is supposed to respawn, but I don't know the time of day or the hour." I told Iris and the others.

"So, we have to just sit here and wait. UHG!" Iris replied with a heavy sigh.

We were all sitting and standing around waiting. We did fight some Spartoi, skeleton monsters from time to time.

When… BOOM!

Everyone heard the loud explosion.

"That's it!" Iris yelled excitedly.

CRACK!

Udaeus was spawning. Unlike most monster that spawn from the walls. Udaeus spawns from the floor, because Udaeus' lower half would be considered in the floor, or he is attached to the floor and can't move from that location. Because he is attached to the floor, he can create stone spike to shoot up from the ground. Creating barriers and using them to attack with.

BOOM!

A huge arm reached out of the floor of the Dungeon.

"AAAAAHHHHHHRRRRRR!" Udaeus yelled as his head emerged from the floor.

Udaeus braced his hand against the floor and heaved his chest out of the floor followed by his other arm.

The explosions of Udaeus rising out of the floor was deafening, made worse by the walls of the room reflecting the sounds back into the room.

As Udaeus reached his full height and looked around the room, the room went silent.

Udaeus is an awe-inspiring sight. He's taller than a ten-story building with shoulders about half that wide and is a pitch-black skeleton with a large magic stone in its chest.

"Amphisbaena looked like a puppy compared to this thing." Kimmy stated.

"It's not that bad. This monster just seems bigger because it's a skeleton and pure black in color." Cindy replied.

"Okay, people. Ais killed this thing in two hours. We can beat that and take it out in under thirty minutes." I told everyone trying to encourage them.

"Stick close to your partners. I'll leave the telepathic link open so we can coordinate our attacks with each pair. If you need help, just yell and I'll be there as soon as I can. Or if you have an idea let everyone know what it is, and we'll all give you back up or let you know it not a good idea." I gave final instructions. "Ryu, if you want to stay on the ground so you can use your speed. Just remember Udaeus can create rock spikes and thrust them up out of the ground as attacks and to make barriers and to wall you in."

"Thank you, lord Eilwyn." Ryu replied.

"Shapeshift and let's go!" I called, turned and started running.

Dragon wings sprouted from my back and a tail grew from my tail bone. I made a down beat with my wings so I could take to the air.

I heard the sound of running behind me as my feet left the ground as my Battle party followed me lead.

I flew around Udaeus and hovered behind him in an attempt to draw his attention away from all of the others.

Ryu took off running with Sky flying over her head. Cindy Rosni, Kimmy, Wiene, Iris and Fia all took to the air. Each pair flew to different areas around Udaeus so it would be very difficult for Udaeus to attack all of them at the same time.

Udaeus turned its head looking at each of us in turn. He just kept looking at us for several moments without doing anything.

I believe we had confused or disoriented him because all but one of us was flying and we are the first party that was flying and not attacking from the ground.

Udaeus finally reached out and swung his arm at Cindy and Rosni. Cindy flew higher while Rosni dropped down to evade the attack.

Ryu used the opportunity to run in striking Udaeus with Dawn's Light, her wooden Hestia sword.

Udaeus looked down at Ryu, then stone spikes started extending out of the ground. But Ryu was too fast, and the stone spike came out of the ground behind Ryu instead of in front of her on under her. If Ryu was to slow down she would be in trouble.

I summoned Sasori and flew in. I swung Sasori at Udaeus' left shoulder joint. Hitting the stone that is the shoulder joint, I shattered the stone causing his right arm to fall to the ground with a loud explosion.

Udaeus swung his left around at me. I was able to evade the attack and flew back out of the way.

Ryu again use Udaeus' distraction to run in again and make another attack on his spine.

Iris and Fia flew in together. Iris drew back one of her hook swords while Fia threw her spear and used doppelganger to create twenty copies of her spear.

Udaeus swung his remaining arm at Iris and Fia. Fia dropped down evading his arm, but Iris moved to late and was hit hard. It sent her flying and she crashed into the wall.

"AAAGGGUUUU!" She yelled in pain, surprise and anger.

"[Ow, that hurt! It feels like I have several broken bones!]" She yelled and sent.

"[Wait half a minute and you should be all healed up.]" I told her. "[Fia, stay close to Iris.]" I told Fia.

"[I'm sticking by my partner!]" Fia replied.

"[Good girl.]"

I wasn't able to keep up with all of the attacks and maneuvers the girls were making. I could only keep up with a few of each of their attacks. But I did hear a lot of chatter, in partners talking to each other and different pairs talking to each other coordinating their attacks.

Rosni was staying close to her partner Cindy. Since she's not the best at melee attacks, she used her pistol shooting Udaeus with ice bullets and gravity bullets trying to slow him down.

Rosni would fly under Cindy looking almost like a bomb on a plane' undercarriage but shooting like a plain going in for a strafing run, until Cindy would fly in to attack, then Rosni would drop back so she would be out of Cindy's way.

While Udaeus was attacking Iris and Fia, Wiene and Kimmy flew in low to the ground to help Ryu. They both came in from behind Udaeus. Kimmy swung her pole axe using Extended Range, hitting his spine a moment later Wiene did the same thing with her mace-spear, striking Udaeus almost at the same spot Kimmy had.

Udaeus started leaning to the side after the double attack on his spine. He wasn't on the ground yet, but he definitely was in bad shape.

Udaeus reached his hand out to hold himself up.

With Udaeus' hand on the ground Sky took advantage of his lack of a weapon and flew in. she used her Ice control. A moment later Udaeus' had was covered in ice frozen to the ground.

"[Good going, Sky. That won't hold him for long. Everyone hit him hard.]" I called out.

Ryu ran in, hitting his spine again, which caused Udaeus to lean even farther over. While Iris and Fia circled around. Fia threw her spear and used Doppelganger to create twenty copies headed towards his left shoulder joint. Iris had healed and followed right behind Fia's spears. Fia's spears struck Udaeus' shoulder with only two of the spears striking the stone. They didn't do enough damage to cut off his arm. But Iris came in half a second after Fia's spears and struck the shoulder joint with both of her hook swords and shattered the stone causing Udaeus' left arm to fall to the ground with a defining booming sound.

The next thing I knew, there were spears, axes and Gossip Yuanyang Tomahawk flying towards Udaeus' spine close to the ground.

Udaeus fell to the side onto the ground.

"[Everyone, let's all get the final hit in.]" I called to everyone.

I told everyone to form a circle on Udaeus chest around his magic stone. Everyone pulled out their melee weapons and stood far enough away that no one would get in the way of anyone else.

"[ON the count of three. One, two… THREE!]" I called out.

when I said three Cindy swung both of her Gossip Yuanyang Tomahawk down. Rosni swung her short sword. Kimmy swung her pole axe and Wiene slammed mace of her mace-spear into Udaeus. Ryu hit Udaeus' chest with Dawn's Light, while Sky using two of her double headed axes slammed them into his bone chest. Iris connected her hook swords, swung them over her head and brought them down with all of her might. And Fia stabbed his chest with her spear. while I swung Sasori along with everyone else, striking Udaeus' chest.

Udaeus' chest caved in killing him. A moment later everyone had to jump back or take to the air as Udaeus went up in a cloud of smoke and ash. The whole battle had taken under twenty minutes.

Everyone in our group stood around the magic stone for several moments not saying anything. when almost in unison:

"We did it!" "We Killed him!" "We killed Udaeus!" "Woo HOO!"

Everyone yelled and cheered. Along with hugs and group hugs and people jumping up and down.

After several minutes of celebration. "We need to be going or we will have to fight more Spartoi." Ryu said.

"Ya, let's get out of here." Cindy agreed.

We grabbed Udaeus' magic stone then formed a circle. Everyone put a hand on my arm or shoulder. And to my surprise, Ryu took ahold of one of my hands, while Sky took ahold of my other hand. Then I ported up to the first floor of the dungeon.

We walked out of the Dungeon and back home. There was a lot of talking and chattering about the battle and what different people and pairs did in the fight.

Ranking up

I ported my Battle Party back to the first floor of the Dungeon where we walked back to Hearthstone Manor.

As usual I sent everyone up to our apartment while I looked for lady Hestia.

As everyone else headed down the hall, Ryu stopped and turned to me. "Is it alright if I stay with you and help you find lady Hestia?" Ryu asked me.

That was unusual. Ryu usually doesn't do anything to be alone with me. Even though Ryu told me she loved me, she still never tried to be alone with me. It might still be that elf attitude at work. But then none of my girls usually try to be alone with me. They are usually happy just being around me, holding my hand or being held by me even though the other girls are around.

"That would be nice." I told Ryu.

We headed off towards the dining room. If Hestia wasn't in the living room the next place to check was the dining room. After that is the courtyard.

As we walked through the dining room, I reached out and took Ryu's hand in mine.

"Uuh!" Ryu sucked in air and looked down at our joined hands.

Ryu moved a little closer to me. She didn't say anything but she had a small smile on her face as we walked hand in hand looking for Hestia.

We found Hestia sitting under a tree in the courtyard.

"Lady Hestia, we're back." I started.

Hestia looked up at me. "And you want me to update your status. Correct?" She asked with a grin on her face.

I chuckled. "Spot on. If you would please."

Hestia stood up. "Okay, lead the way." Hestia said.

I escorted Hestia to our apartment on the third floor.

As we entered our sitting room. "I'll update mine first." I said.

I didn't have to say who mine was. Hestia already knew I was talking about the girls in my Familia. That being Wiene, Fia and Sky. Although Mari is in my Familia but she doesn't go into the dungeon to fight monsters, so I don't have to update her falna.

"Sure, go ahead." Hestia replied.

"Who's first?" I asked my three.

"I'm first." Wiene said jumping up and down. She walked over to the status chair, took her top off and sat on the chair.

I created a drop of ichor and put it on Wiene's back. I used what excelia she had gained to raise up Wiene's stats. Then I found and used the high-quality excelia Wiene had gained and raised up her Level to Level six.

"You're Level six now, Sweetheart." I told Wiene and kissed her on the top of her head. "No new Skills, but that's no real surprise." I added.

I close Wiene's status and locked it. "You're done." I told her.

"Thank you, Eilwyn. I love you." Wiene told me as she stood up and put her top back on.

"Who's next?" I asked Fia and Sky.

"Fia can go next." Sky stated.

"Thank you, Sky." Fia told Sky as she took her top off and sat on the status chair.

I created a drop of Ichor and put it on Fia's back. I raised up Fia's stats then found enough high-quality excelia to raise her up to Level six.

"You're Level six now too, Fia." I told Fia and kissed her on the top of the head.

I looked over at Hestia. "Loki's going to be so jealous of the Hestia Familia. We have almost as many Level six adventurers as her Familia does. And if My Team ranks up we'll have four Level sevens, while Loki doesn't have any Level sevens yet." I told Hestia and chuckled.

Hestia grinned from ear to ear. "Ooohhh! Loki will be so jealous. I love it!" Hestia exclaimed.

I chuckled and turned back to Fia. "You have a new Skill. It's called Aerial Combat" I Informed her. "It increases your Agility, Endurance and Speed while you fight while you are flying." I added.

"I didn't get that Skill." Wiene said sadly.

"Probably because you don't fly as much as Fia does when you fight. And it could be because she has natural wings. No telling." I told Wiene. "And you have to remember, not everyone gets a Skill every time their status is updated or when they Rank up. No one on my Team has gotten a new Skill or Development Ability for quite a while." I reminded her.

"You're right, Eilwyn. It just would have been nice to have gotten a Skill like that." Wiene said.

I closed Fia's falna and locked it. "You're finished." I told her and stepped back.

Fia stood up and put her top back on. "Thank you, Eilwyn." She said and stepped away from the status chair.

"And last but not least… Sky." I proclaimed holding out my hands as if I was showing a prize on a game show.

Sky Giggled then she took her top off and sat on the status chair. "I'm ready." She told me.

I went through the same prosses I did with the other two. I raised up Sky's status then I found enough high-quality excelia to raise her up to Level six. "And now all three of my adventurers are Level six." I announced and kissed Sky on the top of her head.

"I'm Level six now?" Sky asked excitedly looking over her shoulder at me.

I nodded my head in agreement. "Yes, you are." I assured her. "And you got the same skill Fia got, Aerial Combat." I told Sky.

"Really? I got the Aerial Combat Skill?" Sky asked surprised.

"Yes, you did." I answered Sky.

I looked around the room at everyone there. "I wonder if the rest of us start flying a lot when we fight, if all of us could get the Aerial Combat Skill?" I asked rhetorically then shrugged my shoulders. "Doesn't really matter."

I closed and locked her falna. "And you're done."

"Thank you. I love you, Eilwyn." Sky told me.

"I love you too." I told Sky. Then I turned to Fia. "I love you too, Fia." I told Fia.

Fia blushed. "I love you, Eilwyn." She told me.

"Okay, you're up, lady Hestia." I said and stepped to the side.

"Since you're there, why don't you go first, Eilwyn." Hestia suggested.

I shrugged my shoulders. "Why not." I agreed and took my shirt off and sat on the status chair.

I felt the drop of ichor land on my back and my back started warming up as Hestia worked on my back.

"As expected, you are now the Familia's first Level seven adventurer." Hestia informed me.

"Yay, way to go!" "That's great, Eilwyn." "That's wonderful, Eilwyn. "Level seven!"

The girls cheered for me.

I grinned from ear to ear. "Thank you, girls."

"Uuhh!" Hestia sighed. "You also have a new Development Ability it's Skrimsli Reivi (Monster Rage). It seems to greatly increases your strength and endurance while you have a monster aspect showing. I would guess that would mean any part or all of your Spirit Animal form or any part of your Winged Manticore form. Wings, claws, tail or anything else of those forms. I would say it adds to the abilities you get from your Spirit Animal Skill giving you that much more strength and endurance." Hestia told me.

"That's great. Not that I need the boost, but it's still good to have." I said.

Hestia handed me a sheet of paper with my status on it. Then she closed my falna and locked it. "You're done." She told me and stepped back.

I stood up and put my shirt on. "Thank you, lady Hestia." I told her and moved out of the way.

"I'm next!" Iris declared as she took her shirt off and sat on the status chair.

Again, Hestia created a drop of ichor and put it on Iris's back. Hestia manipulated Iris's excelia raising up her stats. Then she found enough high-grade excelia. "You are Level seven now, Iris. That makes two Level sevens in the Familia now." Hestia said.

"Way to go Iris." "Girl power!" "Good for you." "That's great! Everyone cheered for Iris.

"And, you have the same Development Ability as Eilwyn, Skrimsli Reivi." Hestia told Iris, then she turned and looked at me.

I shrugged my shoulders. "Maybe it's something we get after we've had Spirit Animal for so many Levels. I don't know. and as I've said before, I can't make the excelia give someone any specific kind of Skill or Development Ability." I told Hestia.

"I thought you said you can give people abilities and powers?" Hestia asked me.

"I can only give people abilities I already have. I can't just create a power or ability and give it to someone. And I don't have any powers close to Spirit Animal or Skrimsli Reivi. So, there is no way I could give those abilities or powers to anyone." I told Hestia.

Hestia nodded her head in understanding. "Okay, I can see how that is." She replied then she closed Iris's falna and locked it.

"Skrimsli Reivi has a trigger, but the trigger is having a monster part out. And it is active as long as a monster part is out." Hestia informed us.

"You're done, Iris." Hestia told Iris and stepped back out of the way.

Iris stood up, put her shirt back on and moved aside so someone else could take her place.

"I wonder if we'll get Skrimsli Reivi when we Rank up to Level seven?" Fia asked rhetorically.

I shrugged my shoulders. We'll just have to wait and see." I answered even though Fia hadn't expected an answer. "But we might want to let Igashu know about it so he can keep an eye out for it." I suggested.

"Yes, that would be a good idea." Hestia agreed. "Who's next?"

"I'll go! I'll go!" Iris said and started jumping up and down while waving an arm over her head.

Hestia folded her arms across her sizable chest and stared at Iris. "I can't update your status with you bouncing around like that." Hestia told Iris.

"Oops! Sorry." Iris told Hestia not losing the smile on her face. Iris took her shirt off and sat on the status chair.

"You try to help people out and all they do is bounce around all over the place." Hestia grumbled at Iris's antics. Although Hestia had a grin on her face.

Hestia created a drop of ichor and placed it on Iris's back and raised her stats up and then raised her Level up to Level seven.

"Iris, even though you can be such a pain in the back side. You are now Level seven. AND you also have the Development Ability, Skrimsli Reivi as well." Hestia told Iris.

I looked over at Fia. "To answer your earlier question. It looks like there will be a good chance you'll get Skrimsli Reivi when you rank up to Level seven." I told Fia with a chuckle.

"Since Iris is the second person in the Familia to have that Development Ability, so I'm going with my godly intuition. I agree with you, Eilwyn." Hestia told the group.

Sky started jumping up and down. "Yay! That means we'll get that ability the next time we Rank up!" Sky exclaimed excitedly.

Wiene grabbed Sky and they started bouncing around the room together.

Every one started laughing at the Sky's and Wiene's antics.

Hestia closed Iris's falna and locked it. "And you're all done." She informed Iris.

"Thank you, lady Hestia." Iris said as she stood up and put her shirt on and moved out of the way for the next person. Then she ran over and grabbed one of Sky's hands and one of Wiene's hands and join in and started bouncing around with them.

Cindy looked at the three girls bouncing around the room. "LADIES, PLEASE!" She yelled to get their attention.

Sky, Iris and Wiene stopped bounding around and looked at Cindy.

"I know you're excited about possibly getting the new Advanced Ability. But could you wait to celebrate until AFTER the rest of us have our statuses updated before you go bouncing around the room. Or take it into the PD where you won't disturb the rest of us." Cindy half scolded and half explained to the three girls.

"Sorry!" They all said in unison and started giggling.

Hestia shook her head from side to side. "Children. What am I going to do with you people?" She asked rhetorically. "Okay who's next?" Hestia asked Kimmy, Cindy and Ryu.

All three looked at each other, but none of them spoke up or made a move towards the status update chair.

"Ryu, you go next." I said.

Ryu looked at me for a moment. Then she nodded her head, yes. "Thank you, lord Eilwyn." Ryu said as she walked over to the status chair.

I turned around and looked at the wall so Ryu could take her shirt off.

I could hear Ryu sitting on the status chair. Then I heard Hestia working on Ryu's status.

"Ryu, you Went up in Level as well. You are now a Level seven." Hestia told Ryu. "You also have the same development Ability as Eilwyn and Iris, Skrimsli Reivi." Hestia told Ryu.

I wonder how that will affect your running speed?" I asked rhetorically.

"You're finished, Ryu." Hestia told her, after she closed and locked her falna.

"I will have to find out." Ryu stated.

A couple moments later. "You can turn around lord Elwyn." Ryu told me.

I turned around and faced the girls. "Thank you, Ryu."

"I'll go next." Kimmy spoke up as she took her shirt of and took Ryu's place on the status chair.

Hestia went through the usual prosses. She raised up Kimmy's stats, then she raised up her level to Level seven.

"You are a Level seven as well, Kimmy. And no surprise, you also have the Development Ability, Skrimsli Reivi." Hestia Told Kimmy and closed and locked her falna.

"This is so weird. All of us have the same Development Ability." Kimmy stated.

"Not all of us yet. Cindy hasn't had her status updated yet. And if you remember all of us, get the same Skill, Spirit Animal, at the same time." I reminded Kimmy.

"Speaking of which. It's my turn to have my status updated." Cindy informed the room as she pulled her shirt off over her head and sat on the status chair.

Cindy Ranked up to Level seven with the rest of those on my Team. She also received the Development Ability, Skrimsli Reivi, as well.

As Hestia closed and Locked Cindy's falna. "Your next Rosni." Hestia said.

Rosni took her place on the status chair and Hestia went to work on her falna.

"And you went up as well, Rosni. You are now Level five." Hestia told Rosni and the rest of us in the room.

"Way to go Rosni. "Woo Hoo." "That's great Rosni." Everyone cheered Rosni's ranking up.

Once Hestia and closed and locked her falna, Rosni stood up and turned to the rest of us. "Because I'm the Team's Supporter. I don't think I need to work on Ranking up anymore. I'm already stronger than any Supporter I know of and I'm stronger than most Adventurers." She told us.

"If that's what you want, that's good. But I would like to see you reach Level six. If we plan on going to the bottom of the Dungeon, I think you will need to be a Level six. But that is my personal opinion and not set in stone. It is up to you." I gave Rosni my opinion of her trying to Rank up again or not.

"Rosni's doing good right now. I don't think she needs to worry about ranking up anymore." Cindy spoke up.

"Oh, I totally agree. It is Rosni's decision. I just put in my opinion. I don't know what kind of monsters we'll run into on the deep floors. That's all I was thinking about. But I'm sure Rosni will be able to handle herself down there. And if she gets into a bind, she knows we'll protect her. And we all will support, 'you' no matter what you decide." I added to what I was thinking.

"It's time to CEL-E-BRATE!" Iris yelled.
