Race Riot! Tour Recap: Champaign! @ University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign + UCIMC on Oct 1, 2012
It's exciting to be in Mimi's world in Champaign, IL! We all live apart from each other and collaborate through POC Zine Project and other unrelated ways, so it's great to be able to visit Mimi on her own turf.
Yesterday we did one event at Mimi's school where she works, the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, and then an evening show at the UCIMC (Urbana Champaign Independent Media Center).
Mariam and Osa: so tough.
The event on campus was sponsored by the Women’s Resources Center, Unit One Allen Hall, LGBT Resource Center, DiversityEd, Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center, La Casa Cultural Latina, and the Native American House.

Big thanks to Rachel Storm and her partner Alex for helping us organize both events in Champaign! Here's a pic of Rachel. She was super sick but still made it to the first event <3

Thanks for getting us dinner, Fiona! <3
We really appreciated all of the questions and feedback from students, faculty and community members at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.
After the panel, we headed to UCIMC, where Rachel's partner Alex was so welcoming and helpful. We loved the space! So much great art and zines on display!
Cristy on stage with a slide of her art, visible in her upcoming book SPIT AND PASSION.

After UCIMC, we headed to Mimi's for a sleepover - complete with chocolate, manicures, watching the amazing musical "Newsies" and 70s horror flicks.
Here's Mariam this morning (Oct 2) <3
We had a great time, Champaign! Thanks for making us feel so welcome.
We'll be doing a multimedia reading in Bloomington, Indiana tonight. Come through y'all and help us signal boost! We want to meet as many of you as possible <3
1) We're doing a zine about this tour, so if you were part of any of the events, let us know if you want to contribute.
2) We're doing a national conference in 2014.
POC Zine Project’s mission is to make zines by people of color easy to find, distribute and share - community and activism through materiality. We are touring through 12 cities from Sept 24 - Oct 7.
