In addition to relieving the heat of summer, the purpose of sprinkling water is to reduce the dust on the road, to comfortably welcome the other party by sprinkling water on the front door or the road when inviting guests, and to purify it. It is thought that it was.

【暦擬人化　その24】 7/28～8/1は第35候・土潤溽暑（つちうるおうて むしあつし）。 夏の陽射しが降り注いぎ、湿った地面が暖められて熱気となり、蒸し暑くなる季節。 溽暑（じょくしょ）は湿度の高い蒸し暑さを表す言葉です。 またこの時期の季語に、強い日差しに射られて夏草から水分が蒸発する様子の「草いきれ」、 土が熱気を発する様子「土いきれ」があります。 土（地面）を潤して暑さを凌ぐ打ち水は現代でも見られる習慣です

Uchimizu is an old Japanese custom of watering gardens and/or streets.

Uchimizu: the practice of splashing water on stone steps or pathways in order to welcome guests. This practice is more commonly seen in the summer months, and is intended not only to cool down the immediate area and clear away dirt, but also to show the guest that the host is ready to receive them. At once utilitarian, aesthetic, and courteous, uchimizu is a fantastic illustration of the simplicity and beauty of Japanese traditional culture.  

My last inked demonstrator for today: a Sailor Procolor 500 Shikisai Pen in Uchimizu (Sprinkling Water). This pen is both really pretty and, surprisingly, an awesome writer. I particularly love sketching with this pen. It’s inked with Sailor Jentle in Black.
