Today is technically my "first day of summer."
Today is the final submission of our thesis revision. Nailed it.
Today I went to school in my uniform since we're supposed to have this UST photowalk that turned into nothing.
Today there was a volleyball and a basketball game between the JRN Seniors and Sophomores and we lost both. Haha!
And today, I finally learned that the UAAP board agreed to have a 2-year residency for a UAAP HS athlete that will transfer to another UAAP school in college. If I am not mistaken, this controversy was stirred by your two-time UAAP Juniors MVP, Jerie Pingoy of the FEU Baby Tamaraws who allegedly started training with the Ateneo Blue Eagles, when the FEU staff said that he signed a contract saying Pingoy will play for the FEU Tamaraws. According to Pingoy and some more Eagles, Pingoy was training at the Blue Eagle Gym for another league, and not with the Eagles.
Una kong tanong, UAAP lang ba ito, or kasama din NCAA? Ang dami ring narerecruit kasi from NCAA eh.
Nung simula pa lang, I thought it was just proper to have a residency, lalo sa mga rookies, na ginagawa naman hanggang ngayon depende na lang sa skill set nung particular athlete. I thought ang gusto lang ng UAAP ay yung one-year na yun strictly hindi paglalaruin pero kasama naman sa line-up, Team B or whatever. Akala ko naman hindi 2 years. Medyo OA yata yung 2 years?
I mean, kunwari si Pingoy, ang galing niya. Nakita ko na sya maglaro eh. Ang bilis niya, ang husay nya gumawa ng play (point guard) at por favor, two-time Juniors MVP champion. Tapos isisit-out mo ng two years. Sayang yung potential ng bata. Sayang yung macocontribute niya at sigurado akong mado-down sya because he wants to help his team.
Ang kaso nga, ano nga ba ang team niya. Yun ang tanong.
Kung kasado na yung desisyon ng UAAP, it's either i-maximize niya yung potential niya bilang FEU Tamaraw or magsi-sit our muna sya ng two years sa Ateneo. Either team ay may mahuhusay na point guard (Tiongson and Romeo, and maybe Garcia.)
Ayun nga lang, magiging unfair nga naman sa FEU Tamaraws kung yung brineed to perfection nilang Baby Tam ay hindi naman magiging part ng team nila. Tsaka homegrown kumbaga.
Unfair din sa Ateneo, kasi ewan. Unfair lang siguro. Personally, I think kailangan nga nila si Pingoy, given the number of players they'll lose this year to graduation.
Siguro ang issue dito, baka maging credit-grabber or ingrata yung UAAP junior na lilipat sa ibang school for college hoops.
Masyado yatang matagal yung two years. Kung atleta ka, as much as possible, you'd want to move, play, pitch in points for the school, eh kung two years kang abangers, tapos three years na lang total mong maglalaro sa UAAP college level, eh parang nabawasan naman yata yung tiwala sayo masyado.
At first I was saying tama lang na maglagay ng residency but I think it's because of selfish reasons. Now that it's a reality, it's so much more than that.
After all, kung dati pa itong rule na ito, wala sana ibang school sina Jem Ferrer, Alyssa Valdez, Dindin Santiago at Kim Fajardo. The same situation na wala sa UST sina Melo Afuang, Aljon Mariano (San Beda Red Cubs). And worse, wala si La Salle-Zobel bred Jeric Fortuna.
That's my point. Let the athlete decide what's best for him/her. So sana i-lift nila ulit 'tong rule na ito.
Ateneo can have Pingoy (as much as it hurts my team and the FEU Tamaraws.
Everyone in a team should just be ready for anyone, sa lahat ng team.
Yan naman ang sports diba?
