Theatre 

In a theatre the sound designs will be pretty much the same, with the front of house PA being identical all the way through with the only aspect of it changing being the monitors. 

The sound design for a ballet would be as follows; the normal venue front of house, with monitors that would be placed in the wings. The reason that the monitors would have to be placed in the wings, is because the stage needs to be kept clear for the ballet dancers to do there routine on stage. Therefore it would not be a good idea to have them on the stage, but they still need to be near the stage so that the dancers can hear the music and keep there routine in time to the music. 

For an opera performance in the same venue as a ballet performance the front of house PA would once again be the same with only the number of monitors and there position changing. For the opera there would still be the monitors in the wings but there would also be three or four other monitors also on the stage and these could be on the front of the stage on show or hidden in pieces of the set, depending on how big the opera is and if it has any set. The reason why this is done is because the singer needs to hear his voice more on stage than the ballet dancers do, so that he can pitch himself and keep in time to the music. There may also be monitoring in the orchestra pit as the band also need to hear themselves while they are playing. The monitoring could be coming from speakers placed in the pit or through in ear monitoring.
