I have been at school for two weeks and four days now and it’s been everything I’ve imagined college to be like. I am so thankful for all of the wonderful people that I have met. People always assume that because I have lived in SC for most of my life, I would fit right in; that is not the case. I felt weird when I first arrived because I knew people going to USC, but I still felt like I needed to adjust to this new environment. The first week I was here, I Rushed all of the Sororities that USC has to offer. Let’s just say it was a long week and a half. I actually had a breakdown that week because I just felt like everyone was making friends and that I just was not sure where I fit in. I have always been the type of person who loves talking to people and making friends with everyone, regardless of their background. I typically make friends with everyone, but have a tight knit of two or three other people so coming here and trying to find that has been pretty difficult. I know it has only been a week and I know making new close friends takes time but it’s still annoying sitting back and watching groups of people walk by and laugh as if they’ve been friends their whole life. It’s also interesting sitting back and seeing how some people are still stuck in their high school mentality. They will soon realize that they will not come close to surviving in college if that’s their whole outlook on life. Another thing that is very different about college is that you don’t have to fit in. Referring to earlier when I was talking about finding new friends I said I was not sure about where I fit in. I know now it’s not about fitting in its about standing out and finding the people who support you in the way you stand out. I’ve been lucky because I found a sorority that supports me being weird and goofy in every situation. I feel like they stand for the same causes that I do and through this experience in a sorority I will be able to support and meet more people around campus.
Last #FallonFriday we discussed #CarolinaFootball after being inspired by #JimmyAndJustin. What will this Friday bring?

Exciting Transitions of University Life. Teachers. Friends. Roommate.
Life at USC keeps getting better and better. I'm still meeting new friends day by day and having a blast with others who it has already seemed like we've known each other for years. Starting with my roommate Miguel. I can't be more lucky to have been paired with a guy like Miguel. There hasn't been a single thing that's gotten between us. You always hear about roommates not getting along but Miguel is like an older brother in a way. He's always asking politely what I'm up too, how each of my classes went, what homework I have, and what I am involving myself with. It's great to be paired with someone who's such a great friend. We keep learning so much about each other's cultures. Things that we don't even know are associated with our culture are discovered and showed to one another. We listen to each others large and diverse music styles. As I learn to listen to Spanish artist, Miguel test my knowledge of music as Spain is a central location in the music world. At times I feel he's even better at identifying American music better than I am. Pretty Impressive. We do hang out a good bit as well as go to the Social Club and dance. I'll be showing him around as we go to the South Carolina State Fair this weekend. Some day I hope to travel to Spain and visit Miguel after our year as roommates in college. He'll defiantly be successful in economics as there's a drive of passion towards his major that will put him in a good career position. As for the rest of Maxcy, everyone has learned each other's names as we're always socializing around campus. We all plan activities together and include each other around campus at events such as sports games and dining meals. I'm getting used to hearing the British accent as well as the ossie language from Jess. Floor 2 is close as we all are getting to know each and every member of the floor really well. I would have to say the Dutch are some of my favorite people I've met. They're all really awesome people and I love hanging out with them. More stories on this in the future. On the academic side of things, I would have to say I am completely satisfied with all of my professors. My grades are staying strong as I'm keeping A's and B's. Trying to get a 3.5+ GPA seems like it'll be a struggle with everything that's always happening around campus. I am positive that I can keep my grades very well up to par in the future. Studying consumes much of the time I spend in my room but it pays off as the test weigh in as large college grades. Staying alert and taking constant notes while sitting in front is the key to staying successful in college. As about my professors, starting with my english instructor. As we're told to call him, Alex is very helpful and creates an atmosphere that invites true discussion about text analysis for each selection. Some days we close read and view art as others involve watching tv episodes and picking apart the true meanings and intentions of the elements. My geology professor cracks me up as his Greek accent dominates the lectures. He's very passionate about his work and education students about rock sciences. For music theory, this class is a struggle as 100's on homework are as rare as sand dollars. I spend hours memorizing the elements to advanced music theory and filling out countless worksheets. Mr.Watson helps and really explains the concepts but the material just takes practice. He tends to get real excited and has mini jolts as we analyze chords that he really likes. I think he really enjoys his job as a professor in the college world of music. Now for the class I really enjoy coming to on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I take a huge amount of pride in USC. Everyone tells me I represent and give 100% by attending all sports games, always wearing something garnet with the USC logo, memorizing all of the building names, and participating in so many clubs. USC is my home and I literally couldn't be happier anywhere else right now. U101 is all about the pride of USC. From leading the creed, fight song, history of the university, study tactics, and getting involved is discussions, this is probably in line for one of my favorite classes. I'll really miss it as the semester is flying by. It's great to have a peer leader such as Emily because she's been where we all are. She has experience and can relate to us. Always showing up to help Bob teach, Emily is defiantly a great role model. As someone who's there to motivate, encourage, teach traditions, and increase our participation, Bob is another reason why I like U101. He's been teaching for a good amount of time and really knows every in and out about the university. Bob's passing on great wisdom to us all and I really enjoy his discussions, and ways of teaching. Taking him out for lunch tomorrow as well. Geography is the lecture class right after lunch. It's the hardest to stay "alert"/ awake for. Mrs. Wilson is throwing out facts about world geography al the time especially since she works with National Geographic. It astounds me the amount of connections the faculty and stud here at USC have. That really makes a bigger school stand out in my opinion. I'm actually saving AFROTC for the next post because there is a lot to talk about in that field of thought. Overall my college experience has been amazing and I can't wait for the transitions to the fall part of the semester.
