This has been bothering me a lot lately, too, so I'm glad to see this on my dash. It's ridiculous to assume that making sacrifices for someone is inherently unwise. Plus, it's not as though you can't have ambitions AND a relationship. Compromises exist.
exactly!! i just don't understand the need to downplay how important emotional relationships are in people's lives. and i'm not even speaking about romantic relationships either - a best friend or family member could be filling that same role.
not to mention - i'm assuming that the point would still stand for a F/F relationship? would that statement have the same impact if we weren't talking about a heteronormative relationship? i'm having a hard time articulating why it's bugging me too but i totally agree!
