Process
My process of creating my final type was done through a series of stages. Firstly, I began by hand drawing some of the typographers work that I had researched in my sketchbook. The purpose of this was so I could see how each letterform was created so when I converted them into digitally, it was easier to reproduce them. Also another reason is because type looks very different in the two different formats so I could see which form the text suited.
Once I had chosen a few fonts that I liked, I scanned the selected text and opened the images up in Illustrator. I chose Illustrator to produce my work because I knew I could easily draw the vector lines that I needed in order to create the type. Furthermore, I have been doing the Adobe Accreditation Scheme in Illustrator and I have learnt new shortcuts and tools to help with my work. A big help has been from knowing about the direct selection tool, this has helped me to edit/transform anchor points on the text outline, making the lettering more equal and in proportion than my hand drawn example.
My two final designs came from showing the group my designs and talking together which one or two worked best for the project. The two that I actually liked the best, were the same two that the group chosen too, so I was happy that I was creating work that was right for the project.
After the final two were chosen I experimented with the composition of the lettering by using the direct selection tool again to manipulate the anchor points of the text. I also explored the various ways the type could be presented for example italic or closing spacing inbetween the letters. Georgie seen something in the letters that I did not see, this was that the serif features the letterforms had, almost looked like branches/twigs coming out of the text linking to our autumnal theme. Just by getting another perspective of my work, added more depth to the design and another element.
