Kèngbè Ọ̀rọ̀ I'm very interested in indigenous languages, and often searching means to explore it. Most of all Yorùbá language in its written form. Gemini @balogunyusufgemini on the other hand is a master of Yorùbá language in its oral lyrical form; Ewì! The shoot was inspired by the countless typographs ubiquitous in the city, that have continued to peak my interests. I'm currently exploring these typographs as addendums to built structures in Lagos. And this time Gemini and I decided to add ours in written Yorùbá form. The text draws inspiration from the recently feverish political season in Lagos, using "ẹ̀gbáágbèje àdììtú" As a reference to the infinite problems and challenges inherent to the city of Lagos. And intertwines this with the Yorùbá maxim/proverb that goes... "etí ọba n'ílé etí ọba l'ọko..." The theme "Kèngbè Ọ̀rọ̀" metaphorically refers to Gemini @balogunyusufgemini as a source, or spring of oral, lyrical Yorùbá poetry! It would be great to have even an extended audience watch and hear Gemini string his words together at the Ethnic Heritage Centre. Tomorrow, Sunday, 14th April 2019. At the Ethnic Heritage Centre, 35a Raymond Njoku Street, Ikoyi. Do come listen. #kengbeoro #typography #typographs #streetsigns #lagostypographs #builtenvironment #yení #yoruba #language #yorubalanguage Image no. 4 by @balogunyusufgemini (at Lagos, Nigeria) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwNivwRFdTW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1wbq6e7b2v4rn
