Mad Clown is pretty good but I just don’t like his voice. But idk if he’s considered an idol. What about Mino?
He doesn't count because he's not an idol, but yeah, a few people I know don't like his voice. I've only listened to one or two songs by him and they were good and I liked them, but I can't really judge him based on that. As for Mino, as much as I love him, he's good—and sometimes even great—but not phenomenal. The thing about him is that sometimes he's really good (most of his post-debut work is great, for instance, particularly 걔 세 which is amazing, one of my favorite tracks off Winner's debut album, and one of my favorite rap tracks from YG ever), but other times, he's just okay especially if you look at most of his pre-debut stuff. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he used to strain his voice ALL THE TIME to make it sound rough and deep and sometimes he wasn't very creative with his flow so now that he's kind of worked on both, he's great and we'll see him just get better from here on out.
Imo, the idol rapper ladder goes like this:
Zico - sits on a throne miles above everyone else. Hands down the best. One of the best in the rap industry in general too although some people might think it's too early and he's too young to say that. Honestly though, even if you think that way, you'd still consider him one of the better rappers and someone who will one day be considered one of the best.
Bobby/B.I - close to giving Zico a run for his money, but they're not 100% there yet because they have certain things they need to work on. For me, they complement each other and it's hard picking who's better than the other. I think a lot of people pick Bobby instantly and write off B.I with the way SMTM was a mess. Part of it was evil editing and Mix & Match pressure and deadlines that Bobby didn't have to deal with though and you didn't know about unless you watched M&M when it came out months later. To be honest, the two performances where B.I was on top of things (here and here) were two of the best, most memorable, and most creative performances by far in SMTM3, and he didn't even do or wear anything special for either of them which is saying something. But yeah anyway, while Bobby's INCREDIBLE and he's going to be one of the best too, he has some bad habits and flaws and B.I can do certain things he can't. On the flip side, Bobby can do a bunch of things B.I's lacking so...yeah. I don't know. They're tied for me.
Rap Monster - belongs somewhere on this list, and I have no idea where to put him. He's really good and I feel like putting him in the #2 spot with Double B, but I need to listen to him more before I feel comfortable doing that. Also, I feel like he's one of those people who are really talented, but they don't have much room to grow whereas Bobby and B.I have VAST potential for immense growth. Not only that, but Double B DOMINATE the stage when they're on due to their charisma, charm, and stage presence and their parts usually are some of the most memorable parts of the songs whereas...the few things I've seen of Rap Monster with BTS were like "He's great, but you're not completely absorbed by him." That might be more due to BTS not having great songs though lol.
Mino (and maybe a few others I have to listen to more before I decide whether they're mediocre, decent, or pretty good). Mino is starting to get really good, like I said, but he's not on the same level as the rest. He can grow though!
The top three are the ones I think should be considered serious rappers and are more "rappers who happen to be in idol groups" than "idol rappers." They're definitely going to be around for a long, long time in the rap game.
